Two Fieldmouse Press books are nominated for Best Graphic Novel at the inaugural BODEGA CAT Awards.
We’re thrilled to share that both FLEA by @forever4pm and A TALE OF TWO TRAVELERS by Madita Schwenke have been nominated for Best Graphic Novel at the first-ever BODEGA CAT (Comics Arts Trophy) Awards, presented by the Brooklyn Expo of Comics. They’re in great company alongside nominees from Dash Shaw, Leah Hayes, J. Marshall Smith, Melissa Mendes, and Lola Lorente.
FLEA by Mara Ramirez: Flea is a young queer woman who simply wants to be heard. In a series of funny and sometimes harrowing vignettes, she navigates her overbearing family, her clod of a boyfriend, and a world that sees her as invisible and insignificant. Alternating between expressive scribbles and naturalistic drawings, Flea grapples with her perceptions of herself and reality in an attempt to feel “real,” and the results are both beautiful and horrible.
A TALE OF TWO TRAVELERS by Madita Schwenke: A tailor and a shoemaker meet and travel the same road. In this contemporary retelling of “The Two Travelers” by the Brothers Grimm, Madita Schwenke asks the question: are kindness and cruelty two sides of the same coin?
Congratulations to Mara and Madita, and to every nominee across all five categories. Winners will be announced at a ceremony during the Brooklyn Expo of Comics this November, and the public is invited to vote now through Saturday, November 14 at 4pm ET.
