The part title pages in this book are beautiful. They aren’t anything over the top, but the elegant flowers elevate the page from the usual stark feeling. I’m loving them. The book is also off to a pretty good start so far. I’m curious to see where it goes…

Here is my ✨reasonable✨book haul from my trip. 📚

I actually behaved pretty well while away! (Ok, I also ordered two books I couldn’t find on the shelves…). It’s feeling heavier on my end because I just had three books arrive from @b not too long ago… but, what are you gonna do 🤷🏼‍♀️ I officially lit my fireplace the other day. Seems like a great time to have extra books! (We’ll ignore that the sun is back out now…)

I took out of town for a few days (and totally neglected my account 😳).

I made it to the city, maybe a small city, but compared to my small corner of the woods, it counts! I didn’t get up to a lot, chronic health pacing really puts a damper on the hustle that’s usually involved in these trips…

I DID focus on bookstores, even if I didn’t get to as many as I was hoping to. Chapters is my favourite place to stop in when I arrive. It’s situated right at the entrance of the city (from my direction) and offers a nice opportunity to stretch, get a bevy and a sweet treat, chill, and maybe even add to my TBR (yes I did!).

I decided to stay in a hotel just slightly north the second night and you can see the amazing view from my room! 🌊🤩 Also, @goatsontheroof is also a must, IYKYK.

I realized my last post accidentally looked a little like an Italian flag, and the only possible meaning can be that I need to read this novel ASAP!

Paradise Once by Olive Senior is a historical fiction that tells the story of the Taíno people during the early days of in that area of the world. The Paranaghiri (Spaniards) arrive and in a short time destroy a village. Only a few members have survived.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, well, what is there to say about that… This is about a young woman who is not quite finished college yet. The novel begins in NYC where she is doing a summer internship or program at a magazine with a group of other young women. Esther is a bit odd, and while she seems to be part of the group and well-accepted, she doesn’t seem well-integrated from my reading. The idea is that she is depressed or struggles with some severe mental health issues. I have another theory… (it incudes that theory but adds onto it).

Monsters In The Archives: My Year of Fear with Stephen King by Caroline Bicks. I don’t think I have ever read anything by Stephen King, perhaps a short story if he’s written any. I haven’t seen many of his movies, or at least not fully, either. The book is interesting, though, and I think it would be especially interesting for a fan of King’s work!

One of these novels embodies the full meaning of “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” while the other used the famous Vonnegut quote as a title… Yeah I said it 😬

Grave robbing! Again?!?

In the span of three days, I’ve read about digging up loved ones twice now. For the record, these are both book club pics from two different book clubs (and they’re not dark clubs!), although I’d certainly read the first book of my own accord and the second is starting out pretty well… What I’m trying to say is, I’m not seeking out books with this content! But on that note… does everyone know to bring a pick axe because both books included that? As someone who has, in spirit but not reality, wanted to dig up a lost loved one (it’s my bf, I mean, wouldn’t you??? in a strange non-creepy way?), I’d never thought of pick axes ⛏️

Don’t worry, I promise no grave robbing! 😆 And I am doing lots of good grief support work! I just thought this was odd to pop up so close together in two different books.

Aaaaahhhhhhh… I got a little fed up with the main character in this book, but mostly, I was just angry about my own non-fictional life, I guess.

On that note, recognizing that it’s World Suicide Prevention Day, if you or anyone you know of are dealing with suicidal ideation, please reach out for help. If the first person or organization you reach out to is sh*tty, I’m so very sorry. Their attitude is not a reflection of your worth. There are people who can help you to lighten your load and/or help you feel less trapped. ❤️‍🩹
