POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I have spent the last ten years policing Metro Atlanta. To say I have witnessed a lot of death, including cold blooded murder, is an understatement. I’ve smelled fresh arterial blood to burning flesh to rotten decomposing bodies until I couldn’t get the stink out of my nose, I’ve felt the horrible feeling of handling a body in full rigor mortis and the horrible empty limpness of a child who I didn’t know was already dead when I carried him to the ambulance, and I’ve watched the soul of a dying man leave his body and men take their last breath right in front of me. I’ve even looked into the eyes of men who tried their very hardest to kill me.

There is so much violence, death, and murder put out on the Internet that sometimes, folks seem to think that they’re subject matter experts on it because of how exposed they are to it online. There’re people that are angry and call for violence against others like it’s the solution, and then there’s folks who laugh at violence against others like it’s nothing - and neither of those groups actually understand just how terrible violence can be in real life.

There is real weight to life. There is fragility. There is value. And those who treat death lightly are either evil or ignorant.

Make no mistake - violence should be met with violence. Those who offer death and destruction openly and unprovoked deserve the same as what they offer - not because violence is the solution, but because life is worth protecting and worth fighting for.

Don’t preach violence if you don’t understand violence. It’s more terrible than you can imagine.

God bless this country and the victims of these tragic crimes.

Look toward the good things in life and hold them close. There is more beauty and goodness in the world than the internet would like you to believe. by @fieldtrainingotter

“Did you know them?”

I sure did.

They woke up one day and said, “I’m gonna be a cop.” Could’ve been anything else in the world, but they jumped through the hoops, passed all the tests, passed the academy, got through FTO, and made it on their own. Could’ve had a job making money, could’ve had a safer job, could’ve had an easier job, but they said “I’m gonna be a cop.”

Was it everything they expected? No, of course not. It never is. The job’s insane, there’s no way to describe the ludacris, wild, unpredictable nature of safeguarding a community so that a newcomer knows what they’re getting into. They faced a ton of frustrations, a lot of dangers, a lot of stress, and a lot of nightmares and sleepless nights no TV show, movie, or cop story could ever portray accurately.

But they pinned the badge on every day. They locked tf in and stepped into their shift ready to handle business because who knew if it was gonna be a shitshow that day or not. They went out into their streets knowing the responsibility of handling any and all business from dumb civil issues to full blown sky is falling disasters within the confines of their jurisdiction was theirs.

Cos they wanted to make a difference. Maybe they wouldn’t change the world, but maybe they could do something important enough to make everything shitty worth it. Maybe help someone that day. Maybe save a life. Maybe even change a life. Maybe inspire someone to do better. Maybe feel like there’s a high power beyond this little life we all live in just by being in the right place at the right time, like it was destiny or divine intervention. Maybe feel like if this is what they died doing, their existence would’ve meant something bigger than themselves.

No, I never met them. I never heard their names until today.

But I knew them.

They are every good cop who stood up and fought for what they believed was good and decent in the world, who bled for their beliefs, who would die to make the world a better place. The cops we wish we were, glad to have, and hope we deserve backing us up.

We all know them.

And that’s why we grieve their loss.

If you are a cop and a.) cannon bench 75% of yor body weight, b.) cannot shoot 90% on demand cold, or c.) spend more on fast food than home cooking on a regular basis, it doesn’t mean I don’t love you - it just means I probably don’t value yor opinions quite as much as those who can 🤷🏻‍♂️

Either be able to fight, shoot, or take care of yorself/yor family, or shut the fuck up until you can

Keep pushing forward, always aim for better - I believe in you by @fieldtrainingotter
