Come on down to Artisan Flats, a 120-unit residential community in Birmingham’s Lakeview District, where we blend contemporary design with the area’s industrial heritage. By incorporating reclaimed materials from the original Huston Biscuit Factory (1930s-1960s), the project offers a distinctive living experience. We’re proud of the project team, who recently won an Excellence in Construction award from the Associated Builders & Contractors of Alabama in the Residential/Multi-Family category.

We stopped by Macaroni Lofts, one of our Adaptive Reuse projects in downtown Birmingham’s Parkside District the other day and love seeing what architecture can do with existing buildings! This mixed-use project converted the iconic Birmingham Macaroni Company factory— a three-story wood frame and brick veneer building— into 44 Residential condominiums and ground level retail space. The original 3 story warehouse structure was maintained along with it’s character while a modern level of penthouse units with views of the Birmingham skyline was added above. To the East, an annex compliments the warehouse with additional condominiums, a central courtyard with a common balcony and parking for residents below. A great example of blending history with contemporary urban living.

What can you do with an abandoned building? Turn it into a luxury hotel! Originally constructed in 1928, our team had the opportunity to transform the Protective Life Building, a 14 story neo-gothic gem, into the Hilton Tapestry boutique hotel while preserving its historic charm. With 96 guest rooms and a design that honors its past, the hotel showcases the perfect balance of old-world elegance and contemporary style.

Spring is just around the corner - what better way to daydream about all that sunlight than by looking at photos of one of our favorite projects? Phase 2 of Elements on 30th expands the modern student housing community in Tuscaloosa with 25 new units. Featuring a modern farmhouse design with high pitched roofs, board and batten siding, and private bathrooms in every bedroom, the development offers both style and functionality. The clubhouse includes a gym with views of the private pool, plus a second-story common area with views of the University of Alabama football stadium.

In the wake of the April 27th, 2011 tornadoes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Fifth Dimension was tasked with the planning and design for a student housing community in land devastated by the tornadoes destructive path. Arising from the debris, Elements on 30th was created as a thoughtful response to rebuild and strengthen the community. Just a stone’s throw from the historic Old City in St. Augustine, Florida stands Brisa, one of our favorite multifamily projects!
