🐍 Join us for our next Bio-blitz for wildlife identification along Ingraham Gully!

Ingraham Gully is a natural waterway running through Fifth Ward left unprotected by local governments and at risk of being paved over by developers. For decades, the gully has not only been a place for herons, fish, and other wildlife to thrive, but has also been an active part of the community and people's lives. Now, community land stewards are stepping up to take care of this important waterway for improved local drainage and ecological preservation.

💡 Help us learn more about the Northeast Greenway by identifying more green spaces like Ingraham Gully!

All across Northeast Houston, gardeners, growers, neighbors, and historians are protecting green spaces in resistance to decades of industrial pollution and organized abandonment. The Northeast Greenway project is a storytelling project to lift up those stories and protect the green spaces that help communities build food and land sovereignty across Northeast Houston.

🗺️ iNaturalist is an international community of citizen scientists gathering public, open information about species around the world.

Ingraham Gully is a small but important part of Houston’s stormwater infrastructure, located in the historic Fifth Ward. It functions as an open drainage channel, carrying runoff into the Buffalo Bayou watershed and helping reduce localized flooding.

Like many similar systems, it reflects long standing infrastructure patterns in underserved communities, where open drainage has been more common. Over time, the gully has faced challenges including pollution, illegal dumping, and periods of limited maintenance.

Community efforts, including cleanups led by PFWCA, highlight both the need and opportunity to improve and reimagine these spaces as functional, accessible, and environmentally supportive assets.
