Flight or fight? ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿฝ I am fortunate that people like what I do. Without them, I could not do what I do. I am looking forward to when things ainโ€™t as crazy because the truth is-health first. He prays in a barong, but his god is gold. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ’ฐ The image of the โ€œbuwayaโ€ (crocodile) as a corrupt or greedy figure goes all the way back to Spanish colonial times. In early folklore, the crocodile was a creature to be respected - powerful, even sacred. Some precolonial Filipinos believed ancestral spirits could inhabit crocodiles; when one appeared near a riverbank, villagers would say โ€œtabi-tabi poโ€ out of reverence, not fear. But colonial rule - first Spanish, then American - twisted that reverence into revulsion. Crocodiles came to symbolize predators in power: friars, encomenderos, later bureaucrats and politicians - those who fed off the peopleโ€™s labor. Renato Constantino called โ€œthe miseducation of the Filipinoโ€ - a system that teaches power as consumption rather than stewardship. The crocodile sketch in my depiction isnโ€™t just one person - itโ€™s systemic corruption, colonial mimicry, and moral rot disguised as patriotism.
