Model: Andrea // Watercolor portrait from life // Oct 2

Output from my second @marywhyteofficial workshop - the first was a couple years ago, I had very little experience with portraits let alone watercolor from life at the time and I was pretty lost in the medium and made a mess of it. So a couple years later, a lot of figure drawing sessions, and with some more experience painting in general, I definitely can feel the improvement. I’m still figuring some things out but I feel really motivated by my progress :) I also watched Pride and Prejudice on the flight over, so I was in part imagining her as a modern Elizabeth Bennett with something between disdain and longing in her gaze lol. by @figuroonis

Start of oil painting #2 @atelierdojo portrait class last night. Lot of lessons from the first one coming into the second but still getting my sea legs with the medium. I broke my little palette knife trying to mix paint lol - I really didn’t expect to struggle with that part but it is so awkward.

Week 2 progress; portrait painting essentials @atelierdojo | Happy with where things ended but it was a journey to get there. In an attempt to warm and smooth out the skin, I accidentally gave my man a nasty sunburn, then overcorrected and he looked sort of dead. But started figuring it out by the end of class. One more week on this piece.
