After watching the demolition of @wallabies by @francerugby and @fijirugbyunion outclassed by @englandrugby I needed to indulge in some comfort food.
-
“Murgi Surwa” (chook curry - Fiji style - nope nothing close to that “butter chicken” thing) W.I.P here.

Well thank you Cairns!
We had a blast and you reminded me of motherland 🇫🇯

Cairns museum - Sugar cane cutters “cane knife”. Reminded me of cane farm in Fiji. These are still used by cane cutters in Fiji.
-
Cairns mostly uses machinery for cane cutting nowadays.

Brings back cane farm memories. These are used to pair up bullocks to work the farms - ploughing etc.

One of the best place for some fine dining and wines!
-
This is the pork tomahawk that couldn’t be conquered 😂

One the many Irish Pubs visited !

Never heard of this but apparently very famous snack at Irish pubs!

This place was very pretty but too quiet and a touch unwelcoming.

Cairns lagoon!
—
Every tourists swim spot in town - family friendly.
Yet the locals call it “dirty pool” 🤔

More Irish Pub!

Now this is the “bomb” - the best “Irish Spice Bag” we’ve ever had!
—
This is also by far the finest and best pub in Cairns city (I.M.O) 😉

Life without coffee ☕️ by water would be boring! by @fiji8oy

Let’s go - and no “handbag” shopping needed here - because the material comes free, as long as I can fight a 🐊 🤣🤣 by @fiji8oy

A quick short stay at @crowneplazafiji before home time.

Sunset from western side of Fiji are just next level.

Quick capture of sun going down.
—
The best sunsets in Fiji are from the western side of “Mamanuca Group” or “Yasawas”

🍻 and sun set-can’t go wrong!

Surprised wifey with 💍 anniversary date 😃

Bevs, us and Fiji sunset 😁👌🏽

Straight after this pic - wifey convinced me and bar staff to have tequila shot for celebration 🎉 😂😂

A couple of the many awesome staff at this resort.

One of our favourite places in Port Denerau for authentic Fijian cuisine

We met this staff from “Nadina” Port Denerau before Covid times and she recognised us.

Hottie!

Knob! 😂

We got to see a wedding even too from our room.

Fireworks as always!

Kids getting excited with fire lighting!

One last time absorb this beautiful sight by @fiji8oy

“Sota Tale” Suva - till the next time!

Ps: so far so good; gut has popped out so Suva, Taveuni has done well so far feeding me 😂😂 by @fiji8oy

Had a great opportunity to get involved with “Fijian Lovo” making and consuming… food coma was a definite
—
It all starts with digging a hole in the ground

Light up a fire in the whole … use a leaf blower to help the 🔥

As 🔥 turns to hot coals, start adding stones and let it heat up to “white” hot stones… while avoiding the firewood and especially stones heating up and cracking, hoping it won’t hit you 😁

While the stones are heating up - help prepare other meals - this is squeezing coconut milk from grated coconut 🥥
—
Will be primarily used in “palusami” or maybe even “kokoda”

Stones are hot… load up the pit.
Chicken, lamb, fish, goat are wrapped in the coconut palm fronds.
.
“Palusami” is in the foil trays.
.
All was then covered with banana leaves, cart boards, wet sacks or something similar and finally covered carefully with the soil, dug out from the whole.

Approximately 3 hrs later it’s all carefully uncovered. Expect lots of heat and steam.

Carefully remove the food.
.
Execute “food coma” level consumption. by @fiji8oy

It’s been > 20 years since wifey and I last visited this place!
—
And so wifey took me on a date night.
.
@tikos_fj - thanks for having us. Thank you to all your staff and especially Solo, who was at your venue when we last visited.
.
That “Daruka” was amazing, the grilled squid was huge for an entree, the lobster was amaze balls - considering I was looking at lobsters in Suva market. And oh my, that dessert, banana fitters was next level.
