I love my dance community for the hype especially these queenz @mind.over.mutant 🔥

I know I’ve been performing my whole life but something about this set hit different. For starters I’ve never had my own name on a bill or my face on a poster. I haven’t performed a solo where I wanted to share my inner world with people.

Weeks leading up to our Assemble launch I was struggling to find the perfect songs and perfect choreo. Naturally, 2 days before the show, I panicked and gave up. I couldn’t bring anything to life and decided I wouldn’t do a set.

Then @barkaa__ music hits my playlist and everything made sense. There’s just something about her lyrics that resonates so much with me. Instantly, everything just flowed from there. I freestyled it, nothing perfectly orchestrated but just how I feel when I think of all the women in my life who’ve suffered, who’ve been murdered and how I want be a role model to my nieces.

I’m proud of where I come from, of my culture and of being an Indigenous woman. There’s still a way to go and I’m proud to be on the front lines resisting and fighting for us✊🏽

Meke at the Fijian Winter Ball🇫🇯

Meke is Mana. It’s apart of our culture and our identity. It tells a story of our history, the present and our future.

If I have to Meke alone then I’ll do so with all my Ancestors with me. Meke is so special and powerful to perform and I love sharing it with our people✨

Ngatu launima
From Tonga 🇹🇴 to Fiji 🇫🇯

This beautiful ngatu was used as a walkway during the Veibuli for Na Gone Turaga Na Ratu, Tomasi Coriakula.
Completing the Vakamamaca protocol, Tui Lauwaki, Vaka ni Lauwaki, and Mataqali Lauwaki led Ratu back home.

This ngatu was gifted to be used for the Veibuli.
