Latent Commons is a group show curated by Yiqing Mao, Adrian McDonald, and Jiaao Song, which will be presented at FILET Space from Sep 11 to 17, 2026.

“There is still company, human and not human.”
—Anna Tsing

Latent Commons attempts to interpret the cavity between pre- and post-linguistic responses to the terrestrial. Bringing together works by Juntao Gao, Hailin Li, and Freesia Tianyue Pi, the exhibition considers biological correspondence (object) as an autonomous force that supersedes human interference.

Freesia Tianyue Pi treats casting moulds as cocoons, transforming remnants such as bottle glass into found non-human forms to rethink insurgent alternatives against the human-centred Anthropocene. Juntao Gao uses animal aesthetics as a point of departure, drawing on animal imagery and biomaterial-based processes to bring forms of wildness, often excluded from contemporary life, back into urban and domestic spaces. Hailin Li examines the instability of perception through painting, focusing on geometric forms drawn from everyday visual experience.

Here, when they come together, the painting and sculpture are used to build an environment suspended between un/familiarity. The blue of the fragment and trunk emerges as a presence: it is the colour of primal vitality, of precarity, of the ambiguous world. Then we start to think about what legacy of ours will be felt by biology as it grows over spaces once claimed as countries, homesteads, landmarks? What power will return to the biological networks under our feet? Their works together suggest landscapes that are neither untouched nor ruined but evolving around and beyond the human.

ᴀᴛ 𝟧ᴀᴍ, ɪ ᴡᴏᴋᴇ ᴜᴘ

Before a day has properly arrived, a body wakes into the hum of machines, the click of switches, the faint movements traveling through thin walls. The building is already awake, held together by the gestures that remain unseen.

Hours later, elsewhere, a red ball rises above Greenwich. It pauses at the edge of its ascent, suspended between anticipation and release, then falls to announce a shared hour. For a moment, time appears measurable, public and precise. The signal occurs only once. To receive it, one must be present and attentive.

The ball comes to a halt, at its lowest point, appears still. However not everything settles, the same sounds continue, but they no longer belong to the same hour. A body may inhabit one hour while the world insists upon another.

Across three episodes, the exhibition lingers between waking, orienting and adjusting, asking who determines the rhythms by which collective life is organised; what forms of security these shared measures provide; and what happens to bodies that cannot—or choose not to—remain in time with them. How might they sustain rhythms of their own?

HORSES AND SPACESHIP ARE THE SAME THING
@Filet_Space

PV Thurs 2 July 6-8:30pm
Open 3-5 July 12am-6pm

A duo exhibition of spaceship maquettes and small-scale model horses by me and @sasha_alfille Feat. SPACE HORSE comic by @arundodds !

Our works differ in their fidelity, yet both retain the sensibilities of sketching, and display the process of their assembly; bearing pencil lines, glue stains, and the scars of reworking and iteration. They are flimsy, futile objects, diligently assembled with love and attention to detail using, give-or-take, the materials and approaches available to a child.

Horses in barding and interplanetary spacecraft both sit similarly distant from our present - and both with one foot in fiction/ fantasy. We therefore posit that the act of reaching for these things is one and the same.

Sasha’s horses cannot gallop along, and Alfie’s spaceships will never take us to other planets; they are both deeply silly, and deeply sad objects. taken in Filet by @filet_space

Exhibition announcement • @adelelazzeri @t0bytobiaskidd at @filet_space

This exhibition is grounded in an ongoing collaborative project of artists Adele Lazzeri and Toby Tobias Kidd: Growing Sculptures from the Soil. The project has been developed over three residencies: Bastioni Association (Florence, Italy); Live Art Ireland (Tipperary, Ireland), High House at Antony Gormley Estate (Norfolk, England). The show comes together as the art practices of the two artists join, divide, open up, fall apart, and hold together, among themselves and in relation to the other. All the work comes from moments they were working together - some remain joint, while some moved out and into their own individual practices.

This exhibition jumps off from listening to Howard Caygill’s lectures on Planetary Aesthetics, particularly ideas around the objecthood (or otherwise) of Earth prompted by the 1966 Lunar Orbiter 1 photograph of the planet.

Opening 11th June 6-8pm RSVP required: https://luma.com/vmy0gdcx
