Congratulations to our Curator of Programs, Filly Gueye (@fillydabo ), for her selection to the Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art 2026 (@gifestival ) ! This Delegate Programme was supported by the British Council (@britishcouncilsenegal ). Filly shared RAW’s vision and practices and the unfolding of her curatorial practice during the Scottish Contemporary Art Network Event on Friday June 5th.

The trip was an incredible opportunity to explore Glasgow’s vibrant art ecosystem with a visit to Cove Park (@cove_park ) felt especially meaningful, as it is a place that had previously welcomed fellow RAW Amazones, Fatima Bintou Rassoul SY (@fbrsy ) and Dulcie Abrahams Altass in 2021. It was great encountering familiar faces from the extended RAW family, including Alberta Whittle (@purebred.mongrel ) Fellows of the RAW Académie Session 4 Corpus Callosum. A truly inspiring exchange of knowledge and care! ✨

GI brings together work by over 60 artists, presented across 32 venues throughout the city. The festival is a collaborative undertaking, with projects developed by artists, curators, organisers, independent spaces across the city, and the GI festival team.

The GI Delegates 2026 are Filly Gueye (Sénégal), Ruha Fifita (Australia) , Yasmin Huleileh (Palestine), Ghazala Raees (Pakistan, Lk Rigor (Philippines), Ane Tonga (New Zealand), Ksenia Malykh (Ukraine), Rebecca Yeoh (Malaysia), Kevser Gular (Turkey)

#rawstudiovisits A look back at our studio visit yesterday at Black Rock (@blackrocksenegal ) with resident artists Abdessamia Bargamane (@abdessamia.bargamane ) and Elolo Bosoka (@elolobosoka )

Abdessamia Bargamane, a Moroccan artist, perpetuates and reinvents his family’s foundry heritage. Between craftsmanship and contemporary art, he explores metal as a living language, blending memory, material, and experimentation.

Elolo Bosoka, a Ghanaian artist and producer, creates poetic installations from ordinary materials. Inspired by everyday life and cultural exchanges, he connects the personal and the collective through an open and sensitive approach.

This visit was an opportunity to discover the research they’ve been developing during their residency and to exchange directly with them about their artistic practices.

Today we have the text, “Power, Practice, Place: Cultural Politics Reexamined” by Senegalese-American curator and cultural strategist Filly Gueye, covering her observations of the contemporary art scene in Vienna. Gueye spent time in the city in September as a Visiting Critic of the arts and culture organization, Verein K.

Gueye writes, “To understand the challenges contemporary art faces, it is essential to examine its colonial legacies. For centuries, the extraction of labor and resources from the Global South fueled the wealth and cultural dominance of the North. This dynamic entrenched a hierarchy of value and access, where the narratives, aesthetics, and contributions of marginalized communities were systematically excluded or commodified. Even now, these inequities persist in how mainstream art is defined and consumed. “Contemporary African Art,” for instance, is often celebrated for its vibrancy and innovation but remains exoticized and compartmentalized within global systems that prioritize Eurocentric narratives. Moving through this landscape requires a critical reassessment of terms like international. Frequently deployed to suggest inclusivity, the term often conceals its Eurocentric limitations, especially in cultural capitals like Vienna. The Visiting Critics Vienna program, however, offers an opportunity to expand this definition. By incorporating voices from Senegal, South Africa, Iran, the UAE, and diasporic communities, it challenges the traditional boundaries of internationalism in art. This inclusion sparks critical dialogue, enriching the program and revealing how diverse perspectives can reframe such discourse.”

Dakar Biennale Highlights: MUȚIKKAPPAȚĀTA by @nathalievairac at RAW MATERIALS (@raw.gram2011)
Curated by @fillydabo and the Raw team.

We were very blessed to have a private tour with @fillydabo and lunch with the Raw team. Thank you for a beautiful exhibition that is inspiring new questions to be asked about the legacies of French colonial imposition in the Caribbean and Europe.

“With the MUṬIKKAPPAṬĀTA project , actress Nathalie Vairac begins a long journey that questions the immateriality of transmission through the story of a little girl born in Bordeaux, to an Indian mother and a Guadeloupean father. She questions the way in which visible and invisible memories have crossed time and oceans and have succeeded in transcending violence to transmit the breath of life, from soul to soul.

This research addresses the reality of multiple inheritances: with fragments of intimacy and personal stories, Nathalie Vairac recomposes the road to our collective identity. She goes through dreams and the symbolism of its archetypes to return to this part of the night that teaches us.

Nathalie Vairac’s practice digs into the territories of the unfinished and the places of humanity that can be re-fertilized. She questions the ways of bequeathing differently and the possibility of relying on scars to seek life”

If you’re in Dakar, go see the exhibition ✨ taken in RAW MATERIAL COMPANY - center for art, knowledge and society by @fillydabo
