POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Next month, PAM CUT @ The Whitsell presents a new series, "Portraits," as we highlight, pay homage to, and consider the portrait genre.

It kicks off with a Barbra Streisand classic, What’s Up, Doc? (1972) in 35mm presented by @FilmSchoolPDX; stay after the film for a robust discussion of the film, her character, and more!

ANNOUNCING OUR NEXT SCREENING AT THE WHITSELL, DONT LOOK NOW!!! tickets in bio :-)

Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie star in Nicolas Roeg’s chilling exploration of grief, and the realm beyond our own. After suffering a family tragedy, a couple is confronted with their belief in a world beyond the rational when they meet two sisters who claim psychic ability. Backdropped by the shadows and echoes of Venice, DON’T LOOK NOW’s creeping terror burrows its way into your being and stays after the credits roll. A pinnacle in the careers of Roeg, Sutherland, and Christie, the film is just as haunting today as it was in 1973. taken in Whitsell Auditorium by @filmschoolpdx

ANNOUNCING OUR NEXT FILM!!!! TALE OF CINEMA!!! we love hong sang-soo!! tickets in bio

A film within a film. What could be better? Hong Sang-soo applies his signature elliptical narrative style and naturalist camerawork to this tale of life imitating art, blurring the line between which is which. Broken into two halves, first we are shown a film and then the aftermath of its viewing. Without giving too much away, questions of using life in art, cinematic identification, professional success, and male entitlement are brought to our attention. Hong has garnered comparisons to Eric Rohmer, a Film School favorite, with his centering of conversations, contradictory characters, and contemporary relationships between men and women. As one of the most idiosyncratic working directors, Tale of Cinema is a great place to start with Hong’s wide oeuvre. taken in Portland, Oregon by @filmschoolpdx
