Opportunity Alert!

Do you have a film project you need funds to make? Could you agree to bring local youth on your films journey and educate them along the way? Could you finish it before June 30th, 2027? If so submit your proposal ASAP!

Proposals must include:
• A clear project description and community purpose
• Planned filming locations and regional benefit
• A clear, line-itemed budget
• A youth development plan through coordinated technical training
• Filmmaker experience, project timeline, and feasibility information
• A plan for securing permits, location contracts, and insurance

Preference will be given to proposals that plan to film in Tehama County. However, filming outside Tehama County does not exclude a proposal from consideration.

Selected recipients must complete all grant-funded work by June 30, 2027.

Submit proposals and all required information to upstatecafilm@gmail.com by September 30, 2026.

In Burbank for a FLICS (Film Liaisons in California Statewide) board meeting at Warner Bros. Studios.

We covered a lot of ground; an update on the state of California’s film and television tax incentive, a briefing on DMO strategy, and a great discussion around something we realized we need to do a better job of: explaining what FLICS actually is and the work happening behind the scenes.

FLICS brings together film commissions from across California to share resources, strengthen our regions, and work collectively to keep film production and the jobs and economic impact that come with it right here in California.

It was a productive meeting, and a big thank you to Warner Bros. Studios for hosting us.

We have a pretty amazing opportunity coming up. North State Women in Film is sponsoring a screenwriting class by Justin Lee of Lord Miller (Project Hail Mary)! Normally he charges significantly more for this class, but to help us all here progress, he’s reduced the fee considerably. Best of all, it’s for the north state men as well as the women!

“I’ve worked with him on a script my team currently has in development and he is clear, concise, kind and loves working with creatives. A good connection to have.

Here is a breakdown of what he’ll be teaching.

- Introductions
- A lecture on theme: What it is, Good and Bad Examples, and Why it’s Helpful

- An overview of theme charts (a simple tool I developed to analyze and troubleshoots all scripts at Lord Miller)

- An open discussion on how we can apply theme to the class members’ own scripts and any story issues they’re currently facing” by @filmshasta
