Double Rainbow

Hot days are slowly fading, making way for cooler weather. Pretty cool to have that rain cloud roll through and have the opportunity to capture a double rainbow stretching across the windmills.

Santa Cruz

It might be the cool breeze coming off the ocean that immediately takes ya out of the dread of these 100 degree days. The rides might seem janky, like they’re losing bolts with every turn, but somehow they’ve been running fine for many years. Could be the smell of garlic fries or an ice cold beer to make ya forget about that summer bod you’ve been working on.
Either way, all of it comes together at everyone’s favorite beach town spot. Locals may run the boardwalk, but it’s the outsiders we’ve come to people watch taking in all characters, vampires, and walks of life that make this place what it is.

Capturing lightning in a bottle
.

Some people traveled for the eclipse.
Folks in the Midwest witnessed the meteor shower.
Out here in the west, we got hit with fog and clouds.

Persistent and hopeful the night would change. I was ultimately left with a covered sky, and meteors whizzing by in every direction except where my camera was facing.

Feeling defeated and ready to pack up I noticed bright flashes over my shoulder. Every 30 seconds, another one went off, and was completely puzzled to what it might be.

Jumped in the car and drove up to a higher vantage point only to realize there had been a rain cloud stuck on the foot hills, putting on a show of its own with a lightning storm.

I scrambled to unpack my gear and tried my best to capture the tail end of the show.

Photography has a funny way with these scenarios where ya go for one thing and surprised by another. Never give up.

Be back before dark.

One of the many benefits to glamping is taking little to no time setting up. Just back in the trailer, put in park, throw out the bikes, and go for a little cruise. Of course, I’m speaking for the one who doesn’t have a trailer but has dibs on the dining table to sleep on. 🐻💤

A look back on summer

For this break, I wanted to make it a point to stay outside as much as possible and away from being locked indoors with the AC. Ditch work and spend time with the kids whether it was camping in the woods, swimming in every body of water we could find, or visiting some cool spots with the rest of the family.

Brought my camera along for every adventure with the intention of documenting it all, but never really had the time to sit down and go through all the images.

Now that the kids are back in school, I finally have a little time to reminisce, edit, and share some of the scenes from a summer well spent. ☀️📸

Bay Area Family Day at work.

We’ve been holding it down with hundreds of injury-free days, so the company treated us to a big family picnic. The kids finally got to see where Dad sleeps every night, and they even brought in our favorite taco spot—Roundhouse Deli with their tri-tip tacos.
Best part was to meet all the family members and finally put names to the faces from the many stories shared in the cabs and crew room. Good reminder of why we stay safe out here and be sure to come home every night to our loved ones.
