A couple years ago when I lived in Santa Cruz, there was a field of cows down the street from my apartment.

For some reason, one of them would always come over to the fence whenever I walked by. His name was Garrett.

Over time it became part of my routine. I’d stop for a few minutes, say what’s up, and we’d just hang out before I continued on with my day. It probably sounds ridiculous, but I genuinely looked forward to seeing him.

I haven’t seen Garrett in a few years now, but I still think about him every now and then.
