⭐️ First-Gen Financial Wellness Educator
Financial education for the first-gen community through authenticity & culturally sensitive education. ⬇️
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hello friends! 🙋🏽‍♀️

It’s been a while, so let me (re)introduce myself! 💚

I’m Cynthia, a Financial Wellness Educator!💰

I empower first-gen and underrepresented communities with the tools and confidence to build wealth through intentional and culturally responsive financial education.

I’m deeply passionate about financial wellness because of the wealth gap that continues to affect our communities. As a first-generation Latina whose parents immigrated from El Salvador, I grew up with values centered around community, giving back, and working hard.

I grew up low-income and went to college to create better financial opportunities for myself and my family. I worked really hard and assimilated as best as I could to survive in predominantly white institutions.

I did everything I thought I needed to create a better life.

I got my Masters in Counseling and ended up with student loan debt. Even though I had “worked hard”, I was nowhere near the financial freedom I thought I would have.

This changed when I discovered investing!
🤯X10!

I couldn’t believe I had not learned about investing when I was younger! Once I became an experienced investor, I knew I had to share this knowledge with others like me—because wealth-building shouldn’t be a secret.

So here I am. Your safe space to learn—so you don’t have to just work hard, but actually create financial freedom💪🏽.

📧If you’re ready to take control of your financial future, subscribe to my email newsletter!

And tell me about you! I’d love to get to know you too! Drop a comment and introduce yourself! ⬇️✨

In case nobody has told you this before, YOU have the POWER and ABILITY to be the first MILLIONAIRE in your family.

Growing up I had no idea this could ever be my trajectory. My thought process was:

😑Millionaires are rich, white people. They already come from wealth.

😑The millionaires I know are all celebrities. I don’t know any millionaires that came from my background (women, Latinx, overcome poverty)

😑Millionaires are not regular people like me. How could I, a public servant(educator) ever be a millionaire?

😑Millionaires are greedy and don’t care about the community. I care about my community and making an impact. I don’t think I even WANT to be a millionaire.

🤯These were all thoughts I had to work through. It wasn’t until I began investing and dissecting my thought process about scarcity and wealth that things started to change.

💚If no one has told you before you have the ability and power to be a millionaire, I’m here to tell you that you can! 💪🏽🙋🏽‍♀️

💚You can be a millionaire of color.

💚You can be a female millionaire.

💚You can be a millionaire when you come from poverty.

💚You can be a millionaire with the desire for wealth to make positive changes for your family and community!

If you’re on a journey like me to create wealth not only for yourself but to change the system, drop your thoughts or share! And don’t forget to subscribe to my weekly newsletter! Sending you all love and millionaire vibes!!💚

I know it doesn’t feel good when you need to make changes to your financial plans. I’ve been there. I know. You’re not failing.

You set up your systems, you’re feeling good about what you’ve been building, and then life changes. Maybe you decide to go back to school, you lose your job, or you start a family.

Now you need to make changes which means you may not have enough to continue saving or contributing to your retirement account.

This may bring feelings of failure, going backwards, getting behind, doing things wrong.

I want to reassure you, this is normal and part of life. Allow yourself to feel the discomfort, but also give yourself the permission to adapt. It may not feel good, but you will get back there at a later point once your financial capacity changes. More money will come your way!

I’m rooting for you!

Our first-gen students don’t need more programming. They need more intentional programming.

Just got back from the NASPA SSHE Conference and wow! My heart is full💚

I met so many incredible educators who are doing the real work, fighting for equity, showing up for first-gen students, and pushing for programming that actually makes a difference.

One theme kept coming up:
Intentionality.

When we’re intentional, there’s a deeper kind of care.

A stronger connection to the why.
A clearer path to impact.

I left asking myself, and now I’m asking you, my fellow educators:

✨ How are you being intentional with your programming this year?
✨ What’s one area where you want to go deeper?

If you’re thinking about how to better serve your students this fall, especially first-gen or under-resourced students, I’d love to build something meaningful with you.

Let’s create financial programming that doesn’t just check a box…
But changes lives.

DM me or comment below if this resonates.

Time to collaborate!

Many of us, especially those who are first-gen, were taught that the key to success was simple:

Go to college.

Get a good job.

Save your money.

And one day... you’ll be financially secure.

But here’s the truth: That’s only part of the story.

Yes, education opens doors.

But once that paycheck hits, what we do (or don’t do) with our money has lifelong consequences.

We’re told to save.

But rarely are we told to invest.

And if you’re like me with immigrant parents, they were and still are clueless to the financial systems here in the U.S.

For so many of us, the idea of investing brings up fear. Confusion. Distrust.

And if you grew up in a community that’s been historically excluded from financial systems, that fear is valid.

We don’t talk enough about how poverty and trauma shape our relationship with risk.

Or how hard it is to trust a system that was never designed for us.

But here’s the shift:

Saving is stability.

Investing is what builds wealth.

I was once in your shoes, and when I discovered the investing world, my whole life changed. I could not unsee what I had seen. And I began the process of unlearning.

When you’re ready, I want you to have the tools, the confidence, and the mindset to start investing because you deserve long-term security, too.

You deserve to be wealthy, and you deserve financial stability and freedom.

What’s keeping you from investing? Let’s talk about it 👇🏽

Are these mindset blocks keeping you from taking action and building wealth?

Mindset plays a big part in our behavior. How I view and interact with money has drastically changed since I became an investor.

As the person who will become the first millionaire in my family, here are two that I practice often:

My two mindset shifts that have helped me on my wealth building journey are focusing on what my money can earn, versus what my money can buy.

The second one is embracing small contributions whenever I have small amounts of leftover money. These small amounts have snowballed over time.

Both shifts have truly helped my wealth journey.

What about you? Do you have any mindset shifts that have helped you?

Sometimes we forget how powerful we are.

Sometimes we forget, the small steps we are taking are creating monumental change for other generations.

Zoom out. Give yourself grace and don’t minimize how far you’ve come and what you’ve achieved/created thus far.

You are part of the generational change💚 by @financialspace

No one ever taught us this—but we’re learning now.

It wasn’t our parent’s fault.

They also didn’t have the info. Many of our parents were focused on surviving so we could thrive. This is the experience for many of us that identify as first-gen💚

April is Financial Wellness Month, and I’m celebrating with a free workshop that’s all about helping you build real confidence with your money. If you’re like me, you may be the first in your family learning how to navigate your finances. It can be a scary, daunting, and even a lonely journey.

Whether you’ve felt overwhelmed trying to save, unsure how to start investing, or just want a simple plan to follow—this space was created with you and your lived experiences in mind.

Inside the workshop, we’ll cover:

✔️ How to get organized with your money
✔️ Which savings accounts actually help your money grow
✔️ How to build an emergency fund—even with limited income
✔️ What you really need to know to start investing.

If you know my style, you know this isn’t your typical financial workshop.

I don’t believe in shame or jargon. Just real talk and real tools to help you take your next step. All through a compassionate lens.

Let’s celebrate Financial Wellness Month by learning what we were never taught together—and building the future we deserve for ourselves and families💪🏽

Register today for this Free workshop! And if you work with students, please help spread the word and encourage them to attend!

I’m now a Trauma of Money Certified Practitioner!💚

This journey was both personal and professional.

As someone who works with first-gen and underrepresented students, I’ve always known that money is more than just math. It’s emotional. It’s generational. It’s shaped by systems, survival, and lived experiences.

Through the Trauma of Money™ program, I learned how trauma and scarcity affect the way we view, manage, and interact with money. And more importantly—I learned how to hold space for healing, growth, and empowerment through financial education.

At @financialspace, I’m intentional about the programming we create and facilitate-we’re building a community rooted in compassion, healing, and generational wealth.

Thank you to the amazing folks at @trauma.of.money for this powerful experience. 💛

I’m so excited to continue this work with even more empathy and intention.
