Most nonprofits are balancing on a one- or two-legged table when it comes to funding — unstable and risky.

Here’s the truth: there are 3 main streams of nonprofit revenue — government contracts, private foundations, and individual donors. The mistake many leaders make? Using the same message for all three.

✅ Government funders care about results and accountability.
✅ Foundations want financial alignment with their mission.

This past week, NFCEH leaders @kevinmnye1 , @findingamh , and @sullivan.nora went to Dubuque, IA to begin a consulting relationship with @dbqrescuemission We were thrilled for the opportunity to meet leaders and staff of the Mission to hear about their amazing work, and what they hope can continue and what needs to improve. We left with an astonishing sense of hope and possibility not just for the Mission, but the entire City of Dubuque.

What we previously called “Homelessness Sunday” is now called “Weekend to End Homelessness.”

Spread the word! Here’s the call:

We’re inviting congregations all across the country to participate on October 10/11 in acknowledging the crisis of homelessness and take a step toward ending it. Whether your church has been doing this work for decades or is starting from scratch, our weekend is designed to ignite a shared moment into a movement.

Register your congregation and you’ll receive a toolkit this month containing resources for the weekend that you can use during your worship service, for different age groups, and so much more.

Aaron Horner’s executive director work experiences led him from corporate logistics to nonprofit arts-based philanthropy. He then entered into workforce development by supporting individuals impacted by poverty, the foster and justice systems. This led him to begin working with those without housing through outreach, case management, system building, and problem solving by way of his executive leadership roles. He finds joy in sharing what he learns through his life experiences.

As an experienced serial entrepreneur with deep knowledge of the work necessary to support those in need directly, lead teams, acquire funding and build structure to keep and grow programming, Aaron now invests his heart, talent, network and compassion into organizations and individuals seeking to scale up in impact and engagement.

Aaron is a husband of 25 years, father of 3 wonderful adults, business owner of AMHServices, LLC, Pastor, MC, DJ and inspirational leader in search of ways for him to use his gifts to pollinate, activate, incubate and nurture the gifts that exist in others. by @findingamh

This one is perhaps our most differentiating value.

Most orgs fall into one of two camps:

1. Nonprofits or government entities that focus so much on (important!) outcomes like housing, education, income, etc., but rarely have the funding or the time or the interest in attending to the human spirit: cultivating hope, faith, belonging, and purpose.

2. Faith-based organizations who confuse “spirituality” for “specific religious performance”—requiring participants to perform or at least tolerate religious services, curriculum, and proselytizing in order to receive the services they desperately need.

We believe both of these rob people of the true life-giving nature of spirituality and faith, which is offered to all of us freely and without coercion.

NFCEH strives to be an organization—and partners with churches and organizations—who believes that spirituality is an essential part of how all of us flourish, but who refuse to limit our definition of spirituality to what so many have reduced it to. by @findingamh
