People always ask what is a “movement interview” ? and how do Sxip and I use them to build librettos for performances? Here is a clip from a movement interview I did with Clara AgborTabi at the beautiful @soulfirefarm — an Afro-Indigenous farm near Albany NY. I was asking questions about ecological memory, climate grief, immigration, and intimacy with the more-than-human world. You can hear how @sxipshireyofficial composed Clara’s words into the song “Farmer’s are Dreamers” featuring @catherinebrookman Rima Fand @lacyrosemusic and @jalenhicksss in our evening length work ‘We Don’t Need the Sea to Drown” that premiered @nationalsawdust

When I conduct a movement interview I move with the person and ask questions, with the idea that the body is an archive, and when we move we have a different type of access to the language and memory of that archive. When I interview people there is always a witness who is transcribing, or in Clara’s interview, two witness-transcribers. The witnesses tilt a power dynamic and help me hold peoples stories from multiple perspectives. It was an incredible honor to interview Clara. Thank you @nationalsawdust — Last night was incredible. I am so proud of @sxipshireyofficial —he was his own variety show. So many shapes of #SxipShirey so many different shapes of sound. It was a retrospective, a premier, and a prayer for the future.

And for me, I got to dance with all my heart, on a stage, which always feels like coming home. I am dedicated to my artistic research, embodied inquiries, my teaching, and other intellectual pursuits and also there is nothing better then being on stages in ways where all the words disappear and I get to just f’ing dance. It was so wonderful to dance with and alongside @attisattisattis @johnaltieri08 @raquel.a.klein @the1truegoiter @aviewfrommcgovs @angel_smg wearing @risendivision gorgeous 📷 by @lizsmalls thank you @effygrey_photography for filming. Thank you everyone who came out.

I recently had the privilege of teaching the groundbreaking MUNZ FLOOR® method to dance majors at @ohio.university — I cannot tell you how much I love sharing this remarkable spine and fascia technique and wish I had had access to such a powerful resource when I was at the height of my dance education. After 2 classes only, students reported feeling « more balanced on both sides of the body » and « gaining new understandings of their interconnected movements », these spiral patterns « trigger so much elasticity, it’s amazing how fast it works ». This multi Award-Winning method created by the French former Principal dancer @alexandre_munz never ceases to catch people’s attention, and at the moment, Alex‘s book ‘’The Extraordinary Power of Fascia in Movement’’ is a #1 Best Seller through Europe. What I probably most love about this technique is that it is truly accessible to all. You can join me for online classes in the comfort of your own home, and you can now directly book my MUNZ FLOOR® classes online, click on the link in my bio 👉

@findingcoco will be featured dancing twice during Sxip's Hour of Charm at @joespub, one during my piece The Bridge with singer @raquel.a.klein and once with @lacyrosemusic. It is a joy for me to watch Coco dance. It always has been, even before our artistic partnership became a life partnership. She is compelling. Her movement is beautiful. You can feel lines elongating around her as she reaches. It is generous movement. After I first performed with her years ago, I thought, I never want to get onstage without her again. by @findingcoco

I’m getting all the going-back-to-school end of summer vibes rn. We are gearing up for big things to come…
This photo by @krysfox captures the feeling of having a loving force of nature backing me up and never letting me fall. I love making art and doing life with said force of nature who also happens to be iconic in any picture and unmistakable in a crowd. @sxipshireyofficial

I am so sad to hear about the heartbreaking passing of Glen Hansard. I feel lucky to have met him and gotten to dance in an event with him back in 2023 that @amandapalmer hosted. Here he is performing with @sxipshireyofficial and @raquel.a.klein — pure magic. I feel for his family. It is a profound loss for all who loved him and for the art form he was a master of. by @findingcoco
