Slow Shutter
In tourist heavy areas, you can use the crowd to add motion and interest rather than having them as a distraction that you’d like to remove by using a slow shutter speed. In this shot. I stood in front of a tour group that was passing me. The group walks right past me and acts as a foreground to the subject!

Color Grading
In this shot, I noticed a lot of white light coming from the buildings in the foreground. I just watched Arcane and I had the thought that it felt like an underworld vs top world kind of scene. I took the shot thinking it would be cool to make the underground cool blue to contrast the orange. I used to color grade to add to the story.

Dreamy Light
I really liked seeing shots on Instagram that have a dreamy quality and I tried to mimic it in this trip. The key seems to be to reduce clarity and to use a black mist filter!

Freezing Motion
Not everyone agrees but I found the ISO auto min ss setting a blessing for street photography. As an amateur, it’s hard to really get fast enough in full manual and I find this function helps me never miss a shot. With modern cameras, ISO is so good, I’ve found it doesn’t matter if the ISO gets bumped to 2000 while shooting. Grain is in anyways! 🤣

Light & Shadow
This was the funnest technique I learned in Japan. Use light and shadow contrast to frame the subject and it can give pretty fun and cool results! by @findingframes88
