✨What made me stop in the charity shop ✨ What I didn't buy VS what I did, as someone trying to consume more consciously ♻️🖤

I'm trying to think even more about what I'll get longer use out of when shopping including what will actually work with what I already have or where this a gap or more of a need for an item that I don't have, rather than just what I like the look of.

I find making a list to refer back to really helpful especially when charity shopping, as otherwise I have a tendency to pick up things I don't really need/won't necessarily get the most use out of just because I really like it and I might not see it again.

When maternity leave ends, a new chapter begins 📖✍🏽✨

🎢The past couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster with the little one starting nursery and me going back to work at the same time.

💆🏽‍♀️I've had a couple of days annual leave to myself where I've managed to balance catching up on life admin and chores (the kind that aren't so easy to do with a one year old around) with taking some much needed time out for myself to reset and recharge.

✨ We've also managed new illness, which started off minor and ended up turning into a bit of a hospital scare but are now out of the worst of.

🌹I've felt a lot of different things over the past couple of weeks and some days the pace has felt a little faster than I would have liked, but I feel so grateful for the time I get to share with this family of mine and those slower moments in between it all 🌹

This past week has been full of love celebrating Niamh's first lap around the sun 🔆🎉1️⃣👩🏽‍🍼👶🏽

It's also been an emotional one, reflecting on memories over the year that's passed us by so fast, Niamh completing her first week at nursery and mentally preparing myself for getting back to work after 12 months off and living in a different kind of world 🌎

This week it's world breastfeeding week with a theme around the 'warm chain of support' which focuses on putting the mother-baby dyad at the core of a connected system, involving families, their wider community, places of work and healthcare.

This got me thinking about my own breastfeeding journey, which to be honest has surprised me in so many ways and has probably been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I've done.

In the very first days I was well supported in transitional care for unexpected issues with latch and feeding.

Then came weeks, turned months, of baby being distressed with feeds and being told it was normal with little lactation support. Months later after starting solids, baby was diagnosed with CMPA and it all finally made sense.

We had new feeding habits and little quirks - baby not feeding in public spaces, only feeding in certain positions and hunger strikes with teething.

Throughout it all there have been times where I have felt exhausted, lonely and guilty. I have also felt a whole lot of love and a bond that I never expected to feel.

Expressing milk has also been an essential part of this journey and finding a pump that saves me some stress has been so important to me.

Shout out to @lansinohfamily for my wearable pump that has taken away a lot of worry, time and work that can come with pumping, especially when I am travelling and with me returning to work recently. I've also been grateful to have a supporting working environment to facilitate this in my workplace.

Shout out to those of you who have supported me on this journey and helped me through some of the toughest moments. For helping me to realise they are just that - moments. Thank you for also reminding me not not to be so hard on myself and for always checking in.

And a special little shout out to the one tiny person who has always been there with me (quite literally) going through it all too! 🖤
