8 Kingfishers, 1 tiny, yet rich state of Goa!

I was extremely excited to put the collage and these frames together!

Goa holds an incredible chunk of India’s kingfisher diversity packed into its mangroves, backwaters, and Western Ghats streams. Tracking down all eight took patience, a lot of fuel, and endless waiting on low tides, but completing the lineup, without going to a hide, feels incredible.

Spotted these busy-body Orange-headed Thrushes collecting nesting material! They were so focused on their goal that they forgot they're supposed to be shy!

Orange-headed thrushes love the moist leaf litter of dense evergreen forests. Monsoon marks their breeding season, and they use wet moss and roots to bind their cup-shaped nests together!

Spotted a little—well, not so little—visitor!

This baby Hornbill is officially experiencing his very first monsoon, and watching him has been pure magic. I watched fascinated as he waited quietly for his parents to return, only to screech at the top of his lungs the moment it was time to be fed.

When the heavy downpour hit, it instantly hit the brakes on his mischief, turning him completely still and watchful. But the second the rain stopped? The curiosity sparked right back up! He’s been jumping from palm to palm, preening, and drying out his feathers just like this.

This Crested Serpent Eagle is a whole mood! Witnessing him switch from intense hunt mode - to having a bad hair day on a stoic rain-soaked perch,being annoyed at being mobbed by a Treepie and finally locking eyes with the lens was absolutely unforgettable! Which look is your favorite?

His curiosity vs. his hunger. He kept coming closer, splitting his attention between my lens and his brunch!

Goa weather right now - stormy, crazy winds and incessant rain!
Me trying to hold an umbrella or myself!- Fails completely, flies away.
This absolute superstar - Holds onto a swaying branch in a literal gale, secures an evening snack, and makes sure the baby gets fed. Talk about parent of the year!

A restless flash of teal in the morning light! This stunning sunbird was jumping from flower to flower, playing a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek. Every time a shadow crossed the garden, he’d vanish into the leaves—watchful, waiting, until the coast was clear to reclaim his playground.

Shama breeding season is officially open in Goa, coinciding perfectly with the monsoon. Spotted this male Shama, protecting his territory while singing his heart out! The female on the other hand is on nest building duty!

Breeding during the Goa monsoon sounds chaotic, but it’s a brilliant survival strategy for the White-rumped Shama. The heavy rains trigger an explosion of insect and invertebrate life in the forest understory, ensuring a non-stop buffet for their hungry chicks.

Cheating on the birds today -
but can you blame me?

Tiny monarch, major cuteness!

Spotted this absolutely adorable fluffball hanging out with his dad. When his dad got chased away by the Bronze Drongo, he found a little branch to sit at quietly while he waited for his dad to come back!
