end of an amazing year of volunteering with @apexforyouth 🥹❤️❤️

one of my new york goals was to do more volunteering and today marks the end of a year of volunteering 🥰 i wanted to find something that was more regular and in-person and closer to my community and ended up finding @apexforyouth which has a program to teach social and emotional skills to third to fifth graders in chinatown every saturday

although i'm not sure if the kids necessarily always digested the all the concepts that we try to teach to them like empathy for others 😅 i've definitely learned a lot about roblox and mcdonald's and ice cream from them 😂

and while sometimes kids can be a lot and i'm definitely excited to get my saturdays back, i'm also beyond grateful for the experience that i've had being with the kids and my covolunteers and also having the opportunity to see them grow ❤️ (and as my friend michael who also works with kids reminds me, adults can be a lot too 🤪 even more than kids at times!!)

i dont have everything i want right now, but i have everything i wanted five years ago!! and thats on timing 😌

life’s been crazy hectic but also beautifully eventful 🙂‍↕️ finally got a chance to sit down and catch my breath and introspect. sometimes i feel like im so consumed by organizing and strategizing all the fun activities and goals and dreams of mine that i forget the most important part… actually reveling in those experiences and being in the moment and tasting the fruits of my own harvest 🍇🍊🍒

i always default to obsessing what can be improved or what can be better or what is next for me -- which is great and we love a good growth mindset 📈 but geez i need to remember to also take a step back and just enjoy the moment and bask in how lucky my life is. i get to hang and live so close to my friends, i get to have crazy unique and cool trips, and i get to do whatever i want whenever i want!!

life is never going to be perfect, but that doesnt mean i cant enjoy these pretty spectacular slices of the present 🤤🍉 by @findingricky

people talking about me behind my back used to get me soooo defensive. if someone had something bad to say about me i’d spiral trying to figure out how to fix it. like i felt some need to explain my side of the story or address whatever the issue was. but eventually i realized there really was no point in trying to clear the air. what’s more important is that i know who i am and the values i want to live and naturally everything else will follow. im listening to the constructive feedback from friends who are here to help me grow, but the rest is just all noise. some people aren’t even trying to understand you, they’re just looking for someone to talk about. so why try to clear your name with people who aren’t even listening? spend more energy knowing who you are and what you stand for. in the words of HRH… “why would i give a f about what a dumbass rat thinks about me” by @findingricky

i'm confident and they hate it 😘

people often ask where my confidence comes from and are surprised when i say it comes from within. having some external validation from time to time is definitely nice and flattering, but i know that it is ultimately fleeting and often superficial 😩

rather, i'm confident in myself because i know the values and beliefs i want to uphold ♥️ and as long as i am working towards living those values and being the thoughtful and kind person i dream of being, i know that i deserve to be confident in myself

so i hope you can also think about your own value system and how you live by it and ultimately find the confidence from within 🥰 by @findingricky
