Kirtan, the practice of chanting the names of the gods and goddesses or mantras, is perhaps the most important technique in BHAKTI YOGA. Although the practice itself is simple, the internal process that it stimulates is profound and magical.

Kirtan is generally a practice of collective chanting or group singing, usually in community as a sing-along of bhajans, or devotional songs, and call-and-response of mantra, or sacred sounds. Externally, we’re just singing repetitive Sanskrit words with simple melodies. But in doing so our analytical minds are put aside as we sing from the heart. We feel a deep sense of connection, union, and bliss.

Bhakti Yoga is a path of devotion that emerged out of the Bhakti movements of 7th century medieval India, beginning in the region known today as Tamil Nadu. During that time, chanting moved from being a ritual injunction of the Vedas to a way of connecting to the transcendent in a more personal and celebratory way.

Kirtan is one of the unique highlights of our hybrid or in-person yoga teacher training program. The video depicts one of our recent graduates, Rachel Harvey @finditwithin108 ❤️ singing at one of the kirtan sessions.

👉 Our next hybrid teacher training program is April 2nd - May 23. Find more details on our website. Link in the bio. 👈

Snowed in on the Mountain. Lots of meditation, tea and cozy hours playing guitar while listening to the wind howl outside.
