Would you try this at home?

There are a few different ways to set up blind tasting at home (without a dedicated host or somm who knows all the wines) but this is our go to method.

Additional tip:
- You can also take the foil off of the bottle (or even the corks) before you bag them so your partner isn’t spoiled while opening the bottle. But I’d still ask him to pour and label so I don’t have to see the neck or feel the bottle while pouring
- We sometimes have a third person (who doesn’t know much about wine) joining us, and I’ll have her bag the wines instead so I don’t accidentally see the number on the bag. But we can usually manage with just the two of us!

I want to start trying a few other ways to make it a bit more like a double blind for me as well, will report back on how it goes.

Everyone in the group (combination of extensive wine drinkers and occasional sipper) actually correctly guessed the older vintage and more expensive bottle between the two.

Both such a treat and would love to be able to open these more often 🤣🙌

2016 Mizuiro Domaine des Miroir had an interesting combination of flinty minerality with a bit of honeyed toastiness, all while feeling fresh with good acidity. Felt incredibly balanced, complex, and long.

2020 Le-haut Nicolas Jacob also had a good balance of reduction along with fruit and acidity, was probably easier to keep sipping and went down too easily. by @fine.vining

My favorite at home blind tasting flight yet 🔥

2016 Domaine des Miroirs Mizuiro next to
2020 Nicolas Jacob L’Etoile La-haut Chardonnay Ouille

I tried 2021 Mizuiro and the same Nicolas Jacob bottle last year and thought this would be a fun blind since they are both
- natural wines from Jura
- but instead of a more common oxidative Jura style, had interesting reductive notes
- didn’t have strong natural wine funk or brett
- AKA delicious 😋

And it was fun to surprise my friend with wine she’s been wanting to try!

Since it was a double blind for everyone, we tried to guess which one could be 1) an older vintage 2) more expensive. Do you think we were able to tell the vintage and price difference between the two wines?

Even if you are not super into natural wines, highly recommend these two 🙌

This blind flight was so good, loved both wines!

I’ve always liked both Sylvain Pataille and Dureuil Janthial wines and have been meaning to try again after the Michelin grape selection, so why not do a blind side by side?!

They are different in style but both drinking really well 🙌

Michelin grape or selection doesn’t fully represent quality of their wines or how much you will like it so highly recommend trying various producers yourselves 👍 by @fine.vining

Burgundy is a textbook pairing for roasted ruck, potatoes, and mushroom but have you also tried elegant Barolo? 😋

I absolutely loved both for different reasons and this is why I keep opening multiple bottles to do a blind side by side comparison 🤣

My partner demands a glass of Champagne first, and his favorite restaurants are the ones that have their wine list online 🤣

Jokes aside, highly recommend taking a look at the wine list prior or just asking sommelier for a recommendation 🙏

Some of my favorite wine restaurants recommendations for France and Italy are linked in my bio ✨

Do we think there’s enough wine here? 🤭

The best walk ever, filled with wine and must end with a glass (or a bottle😋)

These bottles are not just sitting here, they are aging on lees for that perfect sip 🙌 Gets me so excited to see all of these sleeping beauties waiting to be popped open 🍾

This is an actual visual of wine under a microscope 🤩🤯🙌

It’s part of the winery tour at @cadelbosco_official and is one of the coolest wine travel experience I’ve had ✨😍 Highly recommend if you are traveling through Milan or Venice 👍

Did you know your Champagne is shaken during the bottling process? It’s mixing the liqueur d’expédition.

Champagne and traditional method sparkling wines typically get topped up with a small amount of wine after disgorgement, sometimes with added sugar to balance acidity and determine the sweetness of the wine.

The bottle is then shaken to help mix the liqueur evenly into the Champagne.

Does this make you crave Champagne? 🤣

Champagne and traditional method sparkling wines are expensive because they take a lot of time and labor.

While Champagne houses and producers now use machines as well, traditional champagne method means wines spend at least 12 months (but often years) in a bottle and require extra care, like riddling—collecting and removing dead yeast—as shown here at Ca del Bosco in Franciacorta Italy.

Love seeing these cool winemaking details during wine travel ✨ This is what “aging on lees” looks like, what’s left after yeast and sugar create alcohol and bubbles.

Lees give savory, bready, brioche-like notes you get in Champagne and traditional method sparkling.

Does this make you want more Champagne? 🤣
