It is Fathers Day and I thought I would share a selection of photos from April when we came together with Chris, Andy, Robbie, Nick, family and friends to celebrate the life of my uncle, David Clews … Dave was my dad’s younger brother and a wonderful man … quiet and kind, always willing you on … here are a few pictures from his life with the extended Clews family and a couple from the day … keen eyes with also spot my uncle, Malcom and his wife Gill… and Dave’s grandchildren Miller and Evie who are just heaven! #muchmissed by @finlaycamilla
A typical day in the life of Exeter Cathedral as a Cathedral Architect … so think buildings and those involved in all things fabric … @finlaycamilla Thursday was the first Fabric Advisory Committee (FAC) meeting of the new quinquennium and we were joined by representatives of CBG and Solotech presenting samples for equipment, materials and colours ahead of the works to replace the sound and lighting systems at the west end close up and in position … We visited the dedication stone recently carved by our Clerk of Works, Chris Sampson, for Arthur Mawson (Canon Treasurer) and his wife Pamela … We looked at some of the finds recovered in a local excavation monitored by our Cathedral Archaeologists - John and Anna… We had a roof tour to look at areas of lead that we want to recover over the next few years if we can get the funding and to see the lapidarian (stone store) above the South Transept … And most importantly we had a visit from Emma (from Clews team) and Steve! #visitexeter @exetercathedral @solotech_uk_group @cbgconsultantsltd @cbg_light_perceptions #cathedral #fabricadvisorycommittee #fac @thechurchofengland #churchbuildings by @finlaycamilla

Very good to back in Switzerland 🇨🇭catching up with friends at Aiglon College … Great to experience the Moghadam Campus Hub in action at the heart of the school - breakfast and lunch in the dining hall was delicious and special in this setting! Well done again to all involved in developing the design and delivering this important new building complex supporting living, learning, gathering and the arts in the mountains. The campus was caught in the clouds for my visit so a sketch sets the scene and with a few pictures of ‘chalets in the mist’ and some of the spaces within … #schoolbuildings #spacesforlearning #educationbuildings @clewsarchitects @aiglonswitzerland by @finlaycamilla

Clews Architects spent 30 years with the offices in Great Bourton, moving from rooms in the Old Vicarage, to the Coach House and then to The Old Swan … The Clews team have reordered and repaired All Saints over many years the last major project was in 2023 to renew the shingle tiles to the lych-gate and the oak was looking great today! Thank you Kelly O’Driscoll and Edward Lewis for hosting an very fun and inspiring scaffold tour at Blenheim Palace - nothing like seeing a masterpiece by Vanburgh up close - all fairly amazing … And I loved seeing that painted ceiling by James Thornhill in the Great Hall up close and those golden balls! Brilliant to see this programme of essential repair works to the palace roofs and high level stonework progressing on site and the exemplary care being taken of the built fabric to safeguard this important building for future generations … ALSO you don’t have to be on the scaffold to see this work as a high-level viewing platform has been built for visitors within the scaffold so everyone can see the masons carving replacement sections of stones for the Corinthian capitals … this is a view normally reserved for Louis XIV and definitely worth a visit!!! Well done to all involved in the project particularly the Blenheim Estates Team, Architects -Donald Insall Associates, all the design team and consultants and to the main contractors DBR Limited and all their specialist subcontractors … and paint conservators from Opus Conservation @blenheimpalace @insallarch @dbrlimited @opus_conservation by @finlaycamilla
