More than 30 years ago, my friend was r****.

And I still get angry when I think about it.

She was my friend. A wife. A mother. A college graduate. She was funny, loud, beautiful, sexual, complicated, and absolutely unapologetically herself.

She was also the life of the party.

That night, she went to a bar with friends.

Yes, she drank.

Not a lot.

Yes, she could be promiscuous.

Yes, she was married.

SO F***** WHAT?

None of those things gave anyone permission to r*** her.

She remembered laughing.

And then she woke up naked in a stranger's bed.

She didn't know how she got there.

She didn't know how she got back to her car.

She didn't know how she got home.

Over the weeks that followed, pieces of the night started coming back.

Imagine that.

Your brain giving you pieces of something so horrific that you don't even have the luxury of remembering it all at once.

She told her college.

She didn't report him to police.

She was scared.

And do you know what she was most afraid of?

That nobody would believe her.

Because people already had reasons.

She drank.

She flirted.

She was sexual.

She went to a bar.

She was married.

Maybe she had done something to bring it on herself.

Maybe she couldn't remember because she was drinking.

Maybe it wasn't really r***.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Those fk "maybes" destroyed pieces of her.

But I believed her.

I never questioned her.

Not once.

I didn't care what she had done before that night.

I didn't care what she was wearing.

I didn't care how much she drank.

I didn't care how many men she had slept with.

None of that gave someone the right to take her body.

She said no.
She couldn't consent.
And someone r***d her.

That should have been enough.

But it wasn't.

And she changed that day.

I watched it happen over the years.

The woman I knew was still in there somewhere, but the pain became louder.

Pills.

Alcohol.

Anything that could make the memories quieter.

Anything that could numb the questions.

Anything that could make her forget for a little while.

And I've carried guilt for years wondering if I did enough.

Was listening enough?

Was believing her enough?next by @finnegan66

26 Years of Us ❤️

23 years married. 26 years together.

And when I really stop and think about that, I realize just how much life we have lived together.

You met me when I was a single mom of three boys. I came with a lot of baggage. A lot of hurt. A lot of walls.

My past had taught me not to trust easily. I had built those walls to protect myself, and honestly, I wasn't sure anyone would ever get through them.

But you did.

Not by pushing. Not by demanding. You just kept showing up.

You loved me through the parts of myself.I didn't always know how to love. You gave me reasons to believe that not every person leaves, hurts you, or breaks your trust.

And eventually, those walls came down.

It hasn't always been easy. God knows we've had our moments. We've been tested. We've disagreed. We've pushed each other's limits. We've been through things that could have broken us.

But we persevered.

We laughed. We cried. We fought for each other. We built a life. We raised our family. We've taken on adventures, challenges, and more than a few crazy ideas—and you've somehow jumped in beside me every single time.

There is something incredibly rare about finding a person who just gets you. All of you.

The complicated parts. The emotional parts. The stubborn parts. The adventurous parts. The parts that overthink everything. The parts that still carry scars.

You see all of it.

And you stay.

You are a man of honour and integrity. You have a strength and steadiness in you that I admire more than I probably tell you.

I've pushed your limits. I've tested your patience. I've brought you on some pretty wild adventures. 😂 And somehow, you still never waver.

You are my person.

My safe place.

My best friend.

My partner in this crazy life.

And after everything we've been through, I don't take that love for granted for even a second.

You didn't just become my husband. You became the person who taught me that love could feel safe again.

26 years later, I still choose you.
Here's to us. To everything we survived, everything we've built and everything still waiting for us. I love you always 💛 ❤️ taken in Sidney by the Sea by @finnegan66

💛 World Suicide Prevention Day — September 10 💛

Today is a reminder to check in on the people we love.
Sometimes, the person who is struggling doesn’t look like they are struggling. They may still go to work, laugh with friends, answer messages, and say, “I’m fine.” But behind that smile, they may be carrying something incredibly heavy.
So today, reach out.
Send the text. Make the phone call. Ask, “How are you really doing?” And most importantly, take the time to listen.
You don’t need to have the perfect words. You don’t need to fix everything. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone cares, someone noticed, and someone is willing to sit beside you through the hard moments can bring a little bit of hope.
And if you’re the one who isn’t okay today, please know this: you matter. Your life matters. You are not a burden.
💛 What gives you hope?
Maybe today, share your answer. You never know who might need to see it.
Check in. Listen. Be kind. Stay connected.
Sometimes, a simple “I’m thinking about you” can mean more than we will ever know.

🇨🇦🇺🇸 Amid the Noise, Let’s Remember Who We Are to Each Other

On September 11, 2001, as the world watched the horrific attacks on the United States unfold, the skies suddenly went quiet. Under Operation Yellow Ribbon, Canada immediately closed its airspace and stepped forward to help our closest neighbor, opening our runways and our hearts.

Nowhere was this bond felt more deeply than in Gander, Newfoundland. A small town of roughly 10,000 people suddenly welcomed 38 diverted commercial airliners and nearly 7,000 stranded passengers from all over the globe.

For days, Newfoundlanders didn’t hesitate. They:

🏠 Opened their homes, schools, and community centers to complete strangers.

🍲 Cooked endless meals and gathered medicine, clothes, and blankets.

📞 Set up phone lines so terrified travelers could call home to their families.

❤️ Offered comfort, safety, and a quiet place to grieve.

In the midst of modern trade disputes, political noise, and daily headlines, it is easy to forget the foundation of our relationship. But true friendship isn't measured by a trade tariff; it is proven in a crisis.

Twenty-five years later, may we never forget the lives lost on that dark day, and may we always remember the quiet, fierce kindness that unites Canadians and Americans when it matters most.
