I may not actively post it here, but:

Fuck ICE
No human is illegal
We’re on stolen land
Trans rights are human rights
Punch Nazis
Renee was murdered
Today it was an EXECUTION

I do that on my personal account, and I know it’s a huge privilege, but this side is where I can escape to when I need it.

Today I need to shout it from the rooftops to the world. If you disagree, or think this doesn’t belong on a knitting page, you can just fuck right off. by @finnishedknits

Every once in a while I get the spark to share this again. Originally posted on August 30, 2022 while I was waiting for my kid to be done with soccer practice.

How many times have you seen it before?

Scenes from today. I started the day at @awoolenaffair with @koryknitsandlifts and @thepromiscuousnapper, and then caught the last hour of @indieuntangled with @lmwetherbee and another friend. I got bags from @yarnandwhiskey, @blackpurlmagic, and @at.haynes.house.yarns. Chatted with @leenihoi, @laurasaurus, @pacificknitco, and many others. And in the end I was glad I sacrificed a very cute outfit in exchange for fitting my boots in my suitcase. by @finnishedknits

Sometimes you want black, but you don't want black-black. You want something just a touch softer. Like that black of the remnants of a camp fire that has a touch of gray. And that's what Soot offers: it's a heathered black so it's not quite as stark.

Lankava sock yarns are a 75/25 blend of superwash wool and polyamide, and are available in fingering, DK, and Aran weights. It's soft yet durable, and all of the colors are available in each of the weights.

✏️ Word Wednesday🖊️

Yarn Chicken

/jɑrn ˈʧɪkən/ Phrase A derivation of the game chicken, a race to see whether the yarn will run out before the project is done.

A couple of examples of the game of chicken can be seen in the movies "Rebel Without A Cause” starring James Dean, or “Footloose” starring Kevin Bacon. A couple of hot-headed young men drive toward each other at high speed waiting to see who flinches first.

In yarn chicken, a knitter or crocheter races against the end of their skein of yarn. And most people will tell you they do actually start knitting faster, as if that will actually help them win.

Who am I to tell them otherwise.

Ew People socks by @rosettalydia

As colorful, positive, and people-loving of a design you might expect. Flowers, butterflies, and two words to communicate your feelings to the world.

These socks are knit mainly in two colors, plus the contrasting cuff, heel, and toe. The design is then colored using duplicate stitching.

My current WIP is at about 400 stitches. Four new stitches are added on each right side row.

I haven't been able to keep count while I'm working the pattern. Most of the pattern was repeats of four knit stitches and a pair of two stitch cables. I can count the fours, but remembering what number I left off on before concentrating on the cables is not easy for me. And if I'm not counting on the right side, then I don't remember to count on the wrong side.

Now I'm on to the 2x2 ribbing section. And the problem I ran into here is that it's not easy just glance at my previous row or two and tell which side I'm working on. And there have been several occasions where I've made the increases on the wrong side, adding too many stitches. Fixed that by putting locking stitch markers on the right side at the spots where the the increases are made.

At this point, I'm not worried, though. In the main section, the cables being off from each other would be noticeable. Now the ribbing looks the same on both sides, so if I do a few more rows than intended.

Halloween Sock KAL Check In!

How are you doing on your Halloween Sock KAL? I've gotten 16 rows into the cuff of my first sock. Part of that is because it's a cabled ribbing in a fingering weight black yarn. But a bigger part of that is because work keeps cutting into my knitting time.

Anyone know where I can find a rich patron that will pay my bills so I can just knit all day?

While I wait for that patron to show up, show me how far you've gotten on your projects!

Tekstisukat - Socks that speak for you

Tekstisukat is a collection of ten stranded colorwork sock patterns from five talented designers that feature the spoken word (text). Each design has some kind of words or lettering to convey the message of the design.

Yes, most of them are words in Finnish, but does that really matter? It's a great conversation starter if you want it to be, or it's your secret to share with only those you choose (unless they speak Finnish). And there are several with English in the design and even one with Italian.

And the best part? These bookazines are already here in the USA. Tariffs and international shipping have been taken care of. So you should grab your copy before I run out.

Do you pause shows to get pictures?

Full disclosure: I’m going to do it anyway, whether anyone thinks it’s normal or not. Especially since today’s technology makes it possible for me to do so.

There are lots of shows with gorgeous hand made garments and accessories in them. I found the Afmæli pattern through Call The Midwife. Outlander has inspired books of patterns. I’ve heard All Creatures Great and Small has beautiful things, it’s still on my to-watch list. And who hasn’t seen a Dr. Who scarf?

Even non-handmade items can be inspirational. I’ve seen quite a few patterns inspired by the items worn by David in Schitt’s Creek.
