This is a short project I’ve been writing and collecting footage for the last five weeks. I finished it 12/14/25. It’s titled:

I Love You, Dad.

It will be four years since your last breath in seventeen days. It will be four years since our last conversation, it was a mundane conversation about the underwear I was wearing and the shower I was about to take. I used to regret that being our last conversation, but I’ve come to terms with it now.

This morning I woke up with that pit in my stomach. One that I feel every once in a while when I remember you’re not here. It usually comes from something related to you, but sometimes, like this morning it was related to nothing. I just woke up and could feel everything. I get stripped back to the moment at that USC hospital on New Year’s Eve, a day my family celebrated every year with extravagant parties filled with friends, food, and laughter. Now that day pierces like a knife every time.

So this morning as I thought of you once more, all I could do was shed a tear, a tear for all the memories we couldn’t make together. All the amazing people that I have met that I know you would’ve loved. So many of your favorite films that I have finally gotten around to watching even after lying to you to try and impress you with my “film knowledge.” I enjoy drinking coffee now. I cook meals for the people I love how you used to do. I like the feeling of my lungs burning after smoking a cigarette or after a long lacrosse practice. Like you I don’t go to the doctor as much as I should, I’ve learned to recover with all the over-the-counter remedies as you did and at some points just suck it up. I’m a lot like you, dad.

I am not ready for the time where I’ve been on this earth longer without you than with you. All I can do now is share your story, share the love you gave me, the passion you gave me, and the life you gave me. I miss you dearly, but most importantly, I love you, Papa Bear. by @finnmakesfilms
