thoughts for the season 💭

things haven’t exactly gone how I imagined or wanted both in and outside the rowing bubble but there’s also a lot to be grateful for

While the goal never really changed, for a while the wins had to get smaller. Eventually I started feeling more like myself again, helped a lot by everyone around me (thanks times ♾️) and the win became trying to win again. I’m very proud of that switch up

By Amsterdam I genuinely believed I could make a world champs final in the single. For the first time in a while things didn’t work out and @davidgillick got a fairly immediate insight into how much I wanted it 🥲 I’m glad I care that much though. I think the emotion probably said more about how much I still want this than the disappointment. I’d rather care too much and risk being dissapointed than protect myself by wanting less.

So I don’t look back feeling too defeated. I’m happy. I love rowing, have goaty friends and family around me and a lot to be excited about outside sport as well. And for all the ways this year didn’t go as I’d hoped I think I’m more excited about what’s ahead than I’ve ever been

A special shoutout has to go to @zoechyde, @mags_cremen and @fionamurty. Most people will only ever get to see the result, but it feels like a privilege to know what those medals mean

To sponsors, team, coaches, support staff and everyone who continues to back me, @spar_ireland @eurospar_ireland @kinetica_sports @mckvr_sports @kiarenmoregalway @the.team.ireland @team_ireland_olympic @sportireland @skibbrowing @rowingireland, thank you!! There aren’t many guarantees in elite sport, especially when you decide to take on something new, so having people willing to get behind the attempt means a lot

Thanks as well to everyone who followed along or sent a message or cheered me on too, I’m looking forward to sharing a bit more again soon

Life’s gotten way bigger since I first started chasing this but how cool is that and all the good that’s come with it 🫶

But the goal is still the same 😈

Breathe in. Breathe out. Focus. 🎯

Quarterfinal day is here for the men’s single sculls. Time to turn composure into speed. ⚡️🚣
