Tune I already knew for today - this is a lovely Scottish waltz that I've also seen played more in the style of a jig. I've split the difference here going from a fast waltz to a jig in the repeat.
The main way I tried to differentiate was through phrasing in the melody and bass pattern. 1st repeat had the classic 3/4 waltz bass pattern, while the 2nd repeat I tried to do a 6/8 style. With emphasis put on the 1st and 4th quavers.
I did record starting off more slow/legato buuut the recording was odd so I cut from the end of that section.
Thanks to @zpcindy for recording! Her dog mabel also wanted to be part of it

So this is a tune I've known for a while, which is cheating a bit.
I feel this may not best represent how this tune is usually played? I guess its a bit my own spin - I use similar chords to a couple russian 2/4s I play.
I also love playing this as a "faster, faster" tune, starting off with a bass drone and then bringing a polka bass pattern that gradually speeds up makes it incredibly fun to play. I really like quickly moving through a series of major and minor chords for the B part, feels like it builds up tension before returning to the predominantly E minor A part.
Whatever, I'm rambling - fun tune, basically!

A piece I found quite tough mostly due to the B part - you can hear I'm quite sketchy with it, especially in the first repeat.

Beautiful tune though, there's a lovely live version on YouTube with a full band with some awesome clarinet!

Mazurkas are supposed to have emphasis on the 2nd or 3rd beat which i was trying to do here (to avoid playing it exactly like a waltz). Definitely more work to do on this one, but I'm having fun with it.

Can someone please tell @finter4 how incredible he is!!!!

This is a salsa we’ve been working on. Not your typical salsa I agree, however, it’s unique.

Here’s why….

I am replicating what the piano plays on guitar and Archie, whom knows little about salsa, created this incredible melodic piece to go along with it. He’s a musical genius!

So it gives this interesting edge on a salsa tune, which I am quite happy about because although I love salsa so much, I’m very cautious of sounding exactly like Latin American salsa. I definitely will do covers of salsa tunes for the pure joy of it and I love creating tunes inspired by salsa, bosa nova and other latin styles. It’s my favourite style to play.

Anyways, the point I’m trying to make is, originality over coverband. Which is challenging. A multi-cultural band, non of whom are currently from Latino background playing salsa tunes…

Let’s see what happens 😁 and let us know if you like it and if you have any ideas?

So this ain't a new one, this is one of my faaavourite waltzes that I've known for a while now.
The variation in the B part is actually just 2 separate harmony parts. I'd love to hear how they'd sound together!
I believe Andy Statman does a lot of klezmer atuff which is probably why I like this waltz so much. That and the fun slide down for the b part.

Anyways, I have another waltz I've been learning but I don't think I've got it clean enough to record yet. I swear I know non waltz tunes too!

Wow I should not have found it as difficult to get this right as I did! Went on a waltz spree last night and found loads of cool (mostly irish) waltzes. Got a really cool one I'm tryna learn which is unfortunately a slight bastard. So here's this one instead

Got to learn a (for me) quite tough new waltz! The dots I learnt from had some duet parts which I was trying to play as harmonies, still sounding a bit clunky in the b part. Overall a very fun and delightfully dramatic piece.
(Also can't tell if the audio is desynced from the video. If it I would be sad)

So this isn't a newly learnt tune, it's one of my own i came up with a bit ago - so name for it yet.

Tis a g minor jig, was trying to play with dipping between 6/8 and 3/4 phrasing.

Funny how you can struggle to play something you wrote huh. Still more practice needed to make that as clean as I want it to be!
