ZONE 10 ARTIST: Introducing Fiona Morehouse, showing at our upcoming exhibition Make Me Bouquet.

Aligning with a reality consisting of reciprocal relationships and living systems, Fiona leans into the underworld as a way of accessing the technologies hidden inside her own body. Calling the subtle realms to the surface, her paintings and sculptures are often initiated through unexpected encounters born from blind drawings and stream of conscious writing. Integrating foraged materials like clay, chalk, and charcoal, she imagines how these energies affect her relationship to power, possession, and place.

A facilitator of integrative arts and ecology programming for over 20 years, Fiona Morehouse works as a process-driven artist and collaborative educator passionate about integrating exhibitions with participatory arts workshops. She has founded and directed 3 community arts studios and has taught wilderness education throughout the US. She holds a MFA in Arts and Humanities from the Royal College of Art in London, has a Museum Studies Graduate Certificate from Harvard University, and a BA in Art History and K-12 Art Education Certification from McDaniel College.

It’s strange. How things work or what comes through when we are open to it.

So grateful to be a part of this weekend’s Community Festival @wakehurst_kew. I can easily say it is one of my favorite places on the planet (and filled with some of my favorite people too, including our more-than-human friends).

Such a huge thank you to everyone who came together to make it happen. I’ve been working with the Crafting For Connection Community for the past 7 months and this was a gorgeous culmination of our time together.

I can’t speak highly enough about how many amazing humans were able to connect through the support of KEW’s Community Access Scheme this weekend.

If there could be more of this in the world … by @fionamorehouse

Swans filled yesterday’s morning pages. Last night I painted in the dark. This morning I was meant to meet up for a walk in an ancient forest. I got lost on the way and found myself ensconced in swans instead. by @fionamorehouse

Last week was Earth Day. I ate diatomaceous earth from Mexico and luvos healing earth from Germany (image 1). I fell in love with the work of @eva_sajovic at @chelseaspace and thoroughly enjoyed imagining « What Future We Can Divine » together at the @chelseaual (image 6- @eva sajovic art from @chelseaspace ´Rise and Fall of a Templé, image 7- snippet from great group writing exercise, image 8- a jar of crows flying over Tel Aviv as learned from astrologer @christeen.skinner).

I started a new painting with clay from a tree I met in #richmondparklondon one year ago, just as I was preparing for the exhibition and programming for the @sustainlabrca group show- Ancestral Utopias.

I finished a sculpture from Devon porcelain and wild foraged Portland clay (images 2-5 and 20).

I had my closing workshop with the amazing group - Crafting For Connection - at @wakehurst_kew (images 10 and 11 with a big thank you photo credit to @chasingrainbows_14) and finished reading Kingsley’s ‘Carl Jung and The End of Humanity’ (round one).

So many ways to honor and connect with the earth…more than any one lifetime can know (I hope).

Then I remembered my favorite earth day of all (so far) was a not so distant collaboration with the nearest and dearest @revmorehouse and @mluc_uu for the exhibition and workshop - Breathing Space. What a gift to be able to co-facilitate a teaching and learning space with my Dad and to inspire the sharing of a handmade quantum knot and a gorgeous photo of kissing trees from two of the participants.

Here’s to the mystery of life.

May we notice its infinite gifts and remember the importance of giving something back. by @fionamorehouse

“to make something strong is primitive language, meaning to make it healthy, to give it medicine power, fertility, efficiency. So you move in a circle around the center…” Jung and a morning drawing of mine.

And then there is material relationship, a kind of co-creation with place. I’ve long been a fan of Richard Long’s work. Grateful to have stumbled across it here @tatemodern

I’m about to teach my first of a series of workshops in collaboration with @wakehurst_kew designed to support a remembering of what it means to be whole…wholly alive. At the moment, I’m noticing the courage it takes to even get out a door, to step tenderly into the outside world. I left my house, forgot my phone. I rode my bike, a train, and now a bus. Sometimes I forget about the journey, the value of the spaces between.

It’s good practice. It’s what we will be doing today. Moving between the Kew’ Millenium Seed Bank and Bethlehem Woods, we will be exploring seeds as cauldrons, as spaces for renewal and growth.

There is breath in there, fire too. That’s why we will be spending time with the trees and charcoal and each other.

More to come… taken in Wakehurst Place & Kew Millenium Seed Bank by @fionamorehouse
