In the palm of my hand my granny is still laughing. She is at the centre of this small sepia photograph from one hundred years ago. On the beach, in England my granny is in the centre in a stripped bathing suit and hat perched mischievously on the back of a friend. My grandpa Fred walks into the circle of fun. This photograph has been the hook for my whole honours research paper. This research begins with that act of holding. Through walking, drawing, stitching and repetition, I trace how thought unfolds through the moving body and how memories remain within materials. A drawn or stitched line becomes a way of following what cannot be fully recovered: a walk taken, a woman remembered, a thought passing through the hand. #fionaveritywrite by @fionaverity

DRAWING NOW
DRAW Space at Airspace

Featuring work by Lana Ardere, Megan Kennedy, William Potanin, Emma Regner and Kevin Wong

Join the artists and DRAW Space board members to celebrate at the opening
6-8pm Friday 4 September at AIRspace
10 Junction Street Marrickville

This group exhibition is shaped by the board members of DRAW Space – an artist run initiative committed to experimental drawing – each of whom has invited one artist to participate. Conceived as an informed glimpse into the diverse ways drawing is being approached today, the exhibition grows from conversations between curators and artists about how drawing is understood, practiced and reimagined in the present moment.

The exhibition runs until 4pm Sunday 20 September

Emma Regner is represented by Eloise Cato Gallery @cato__gallery

I’m very pleased to be showing work at Sydney Contemporary 2026, Booth 14 in Paper

These new works bring together printmaking, drawing and , continuing my interest in walking, memory and the traces that accumulate through repeated encounters with place.

Each work is a unique work on paper, built through layering, interruption and return rather than produced as an edition.

Interesting experimentation happening in the studio this week. I am exploring and pushing my materials. I started this year by investigating the impulse to draw. I have ended up investigating how a line can carry an experience of place across time, material and space. by @fionaverity

Fiona Verity is a multidisciplinary British-born, Australian artist living on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, of the Garigal people. With boundless energy and curiosity, Verity explores a wide range of materials within her evolving art practice. Predominantly working with drawing, print, and painting, she often interweaves these disciplines, creating an autobiographical narrative that aligns with her desire to politicise women‘s stories and communicate the intensity of her feelings about people, places, and objects. Her process is one of observation, investigation, and feeling, revealing and unfolding images that draw on memory and haptic interactions. Dancing between abstraction and improvisation, Verity’s mark-making is soulful and expressive; her work is personal yet expansive, bold yet thoughtful, much like herself. Verity‘s experimentation has led her to explore a wide range of materials, from charcoal to ink and paint, using various tools; anything goes as long as it creates interesting marks and challenges her. Sewing and thread are the latest additions to her drawing explorations; this slow process becomes a way to think and feel, stitching fragments of time together into these layered works that hold traces of place, sensation, and memory.

Verity has co-hosted the popular arts podcast Art Wank, where they have interviewed over 250 artists, gallerists and creatives.

Beautiful paper from Japan, with long proportions this hansetsu format has a long history as a vertical hanging format in East Asian scroll traditions, this appeals as artist often work down the length of the sheet as a continuous sequence rather than composing within a conventional Western rectangle. taken in Newport, New South Wales, Australia by @fionaverity
