There’s something simply beautiful about light filtering gently through a sheer curtain ✨
Layering window treatments is something we love to incorporate into our designs, combining delicate sheers with beautifully made curtains to create softness, texture and depth.
Sheers gently diffuse natural light, offer daytime privacy and can soften a less-than-perfect outlook, whilst still allowing daylight into the room.
The addition of a main curtain brings another layer of warmth, comfort and luxury, with the flexibility to create a more intimate atmosphere in the evenings.
From simple, natural linens to decorative woven fabrics, intricate embroidery and bespoke trimmings, the possibilities are endless.
Whether on a pole or a track, behind coving or a pelmet, whether hand-operated or automated, every window treatment is thoughtfully considered to balance beauty with practicality 🤍

Visible from outside, this beautiful and sculptural ‘Tree of Light’ lamp casts a warm glow through the hall window, gently guiding you in. Its branching form brings a touch of nature to this welcoming corner.
Inside, the same inspiration flows through our bespoke cloaks cabinet, with a tree created in marquetry by our wonderful makers @theruslandmovement
Thoughtfully designed to house coats and shoes, the care extends to bespoke wooden hangers, each engraved with the name of the house.
For us, biophilic design finds expression in these everyday details: natural materials, organic forms and a connection to the outdoors woven into the way a home feels 🌿

A little look at Fiona Watkins Design in the Interior Design Yearbook 2027 ✨
It was a lovely opportunity to put into words what guides our work: creating homes that feel personal, draw inspiration from nature and, above all, support the way our clients live.

Designed to provide generous storage for our clients’ collection of books and games, this bespoke library cabinet combines open shelving with concealed drawers below, keeping everything close at hand while creating a striking piece of furniture within the room.
Our design was translated perfectly by @hetherington.newman with the timber detailing and modern marquetry turning a very functional piece of joinery into something very special.
A lovely example of what can be achieved when thoughtful design and exceptional craftsmanship come together 🤎

These lovely words from our clients, Rachel & Nick, mean so much to us ✨
Having worked with them on their main home a few years ago, it was wonderful to be invited back to transform their beautiful 16th-century barn into a space for the whole family to enjoy.
Thank you both for trusting us again — we have loved being part of it. 🤍 taken in Cheshire, England by @fionawdesign

A kitchen designed around a love of cooking, entertaining and bringing people together.

Working alongside our trusted partner, this space makes full use of the incredible height of the apex and the generous length of the room, creating a true cook’s kitchen with plenty of space to prepare, cook and entertain without either feeling compromised.

The long island forms the working heart of the kitchen, while the raised timber table creates a more relaxed place to sit, gather and chat, allowing guests to be part of the space and for conversations to continue.

With such an open-plan layout, it was also important that the kitchen felt connected to the rooms beyond. The warm timber and soft neutral tones continue through into the sitting area and dining room, creating a calm and cohesive palette and allowing each space to flow naturally into the next. ✨

CRAFTED CONVERSATIONS @hetherington.newman
Beautiful interiors are rarely the work of one person. They are the result of collaboration, bringing together designers, makers and craftspeople, each contributing their own expertise to create something truly considered.

For the first in our Crafted Conversations series, I chatted to Mike at Hetherington Newman, with whom we have worked with on a number of our projects, to talk about the relationship between interior designer and cabinetmaker.
From our perspective, working with a highly skilled bespoke joinery team allows us to push ideas further, translating our designs into beautifully resolved pieces where proportion, material, detailing and functionality have all been carefully considered.
And from their perspective? Working collaboratively with an interior designer ultimately leads to a better result for the client.
It’s a shared approach that we wholeheartedly believe in. When everyone involved understands the vision and brings their own knowledge and craftsmanship to the table, the end result is always stronger.
A lovely conversation about collaboration, craftsmanship and why the very best interiors really are a team effort.

For these bespoke Crittall-style doors, we explored two different designs with our clients, drawing each option so they could clearly visualise how the finished doors would sit within the space. We were drawn to the softer architectural detailing of this arched version. The curved frame echoes other rounded forms we’d introduced throughout the project, creating a subtle visual language that connects one space to another. It’s a small detail, but one that helps the whole interior feel cohesive.

For us, this is what bespoke design is really all about ✨ considering not just an individual element, but how every detail contributes to the character of the home as a whole.

This room doesn’t exist... yet ✨
But that’s the beauty of the design process.
Long before the first piece of joinery is crafted or the first light fitting is installed, we’re able to step inside the space through detailed CGI visualisations.
It’s where ideas are tested, proportions refined and every detail carefully considered. It gives our clients the confidence to move forward, knowing exactly how their home will feel before construction reaches this stage.
These visuals aren’t the end result, they are the bridge between imagination and reality.
And if they’re this inviting now, just imagine how beautiful they’ll feel when the evening sun streams through those west-facing windows ✨

Every beautiful space begins as an idea. Whatever you’re dreaming of this weekend, I hope it’s the beginning of something wonderful xx taken in Lancashire by @fionawdesign

A colour palette that isn’t just decoration, it’s a response to Light ✨
This west-facing master suite has been designed to celebrate the warmth of the setting sun. Layers of walnut, bronze, antique brass and stone with tactile textiles that become richer as evening falls.
Thoughtful interiors should evolve throughout the day, creating different moods from morning to night. This scheme is designed to feel calm, cocooning and luxurious, making the most of one of the room’s greatest assets: its natural light.
Next will be sharing the visualisations showing how these carefully layered materials come together.
