𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒂 - 𝑫𝒂𝒚 3: 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔, 𝒑𝒐𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒚 & 𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒎: September 5th For the Saturday night of Moons, we are presenting three short films that help us reflect on colonial violence through spoken and visual poetry. The night will open and close with a performance by Dominic Pradana (@dmncx) , a queer Amsterdam-based Indonesian writer whose work tackles questions of identity, belonging and displacement. We then move to Guinea-Bissau, where Eduardo Williams’s experimental film “Parsi” (2018) takes us along the lives of the queer community, accompanied by a poem by Mariano Blatt, No Es. Then, we slide over to Beirut, Lebanon, with Jocelyne Saab’s (@jocelynesaabasso) monumental documentary “Beirut, My City” (1982), in which Lebanese actor, playwright and director Roger Assaf delivers a love letter to the city he is witnessing being torn apart and destroyed. Finally, in “happiness” (2025), Firat Yücel (@firatyucels) takes us through the visual landscape of the internet to ruminate on the effects of consuming violence online. The night will be closed with a DJ set by Ihab Khelfa (@ihabkhelfa). He draws influences from Arab pop, Raï and electro-Shaabi as he reconnects with his childhood sonic memory while merging it with global south electronic music, blurring the boundaries between tradition and contemporary, acid-laced textures. Come early to have a drink in the garden and eat with us, as we will be serving food at donation prices from the famous Amsterdam West community kitchen De Sering. Throughout the night, donations can be made to the Lebanese Red Cross.  Full program: 18:00 Doors open 18:30 Dinner with food by De Sering 20:45 Performance #1 by Dominic Pradana 21:00 Parsi 21:30 Beirut, My City 22:15 happiness 22:45 Performance #2 by Dominic Pradana 23:00 Dj Set by Ihab Khelfa Entry on donation, your Cineville card is also valid. See you in the garden 🌖 In case of bad weather the screening will take place in the studio next to the garden. by @firatyucels

On Monday, July 27, at 8:00 p.m., three video essays—Where Was the Wall? A Diary of Intertwined Memories, Happiness, and Sweet Home Adana—will be screened at the offices of Syniparxi (5 Merarchias Archipelagous Street, Epano Skala). @firatyucels #meltemahıska @aylinkuryel @kinoyxo Whose Story? This screening brings together three video essays that approach the diary form as a space for both personal and political reflection. Through distinct aesthetic and narrative approaches, the films explore memory, testimony, place, violence, and everyday life, moving through the intersections of personal experience and collective history. Where was the Wall? A Diary of Intertwined Memories is a video essay that follows the traces of a diary written in Berlin, tracing the visible and invisible marks left by a fallen wall across the city while reflecting on ghosts, defeat, and memory. happiness is a desktop diary set against the backdrop of Palestinian solidarity demonstrations in Amsterdam. Oscillating between images of genocide and violence witnessed through the screen and the desire for collective struggle, it reflects on the tensions between screen and street, sleep and politics. Sweet Home Adana is a video essay that follows the traces of Marie, an Armenian woman from Adana who was forcibly converted to Islam, in search of a lost home and a fragmented memory. Moving between former Armenian sites of memory in Adana and the disruptive searches of treasure hunters, the film reflects on denial, forgetting, and the search for roots.
Two recent films by Image Acts about the pro-Palestinian movement in the Netherlands have been selected for D-normal/V-essay. 'Class Outside' and 'happiness' are part of the 'Unsettled Emotions' section of this Video Zine (Links in bio.). The full selection is available on Videotage's* website: videotage.org.hk Selected films will also be showcased in Videotage's exhibition space until July 26. Priyanka Sen on 'Class Outside' (2026, dir. Aylin Kuryel, Deniz Buga, Fırat Yücel) "'Class Outside' reminds us that academic freedom in colonial institutions is a euphemism for complicity and, frankly, mediocrity. Serving as a counter-archive, the images, though incapable of communicating the whole, refuse to simplify the actions of protestors – students and communities at large – as interruptions, or even heroic acts." Linda Lai on 'happiness' (2025, dir. Fırat Yücel, co-written by Aylin Kuryel) "What causes anxiety is incurable trauma caused by economic imperialism dressing up as suppress-and-conquer, and political righteousness. In this video essay, it is no ordinary insomnia. The images of Gaza's human trauma appear to be impersonal, distant, almost abstract – just as it is impossible to digest the many occurrences for sensible causes and consequences. And the essayist implicates us all: if not in Gaza, we could be in Amsterdam, UK or anywhere, playing the distant observer which only intensifies our psychotic unruliness." * Videotage 錄映太奇 is a Hong Kong–based media arts institution promoting experimental and interdisciplinary practices in time-based art.  @videotage_hk by @firatyucels

[ENG] Cinemas, most of which have been reclaimed through struggle and whose doors are open to guerrilla-style activities, provide us with such a space of freedom. At the roundtable meeting, representatives of alternative cinemas from various cities around the world - from Buenos Aires to Dublin and from Belgrade to Prizren - will come together to share their experiences and explore opportunities for curatorial collaboration. As we host this special meeting, which aims to foster networking, global solidarity, and the exchange of films among alternative theaters, we will also pay homage to our then-struggle for the Emek Cinema. 📌 The event is free of charge. #Documentarist2026 by @firatyucels
