This video is me thinking out loud, and here’s the idea:

What if we started a handyperson school in the Pioneer Valley? 🔨

A lot of people need work done on their homes, and a lot of folks need better-paying work. I know there are capable people here who could do this if there were an easier way to get started. 🤝

I learned some hands-on skills growing up, some from working on film sets, and a lot by figuring it out as I went. I’m happy to teach everything I know—which, honestly, doesn’t feel like all that much: how to use power tools, do basic repairs, and run and market a handyman business.

The hands-on skills are only part of it. Finding clients, pricing jobs, buying tools, managing cash flow, and going back to fix your mistakes can be the harder part. I’d love to share what I’ve learned and bring in other tradespeople who have more to teach.

I wouldn’t set this up as a nonprofit. I’ve seen how much time can go into seeking funding from wealthy donors and corporations, and I’d rather build something that can support itself. I also wouldn’t start it as a collective before we have the right people and processes in place. My goal would be to collectivize it over time, if we can build that foundation.

First coat going on in this bathroom 🎨

We’re using Sherwin-Williams Respite on both the walls and ceiling for a color-drenched look, then finishing everything with crisp white trim. This is where all the prep work starts paying off—the room already feels completely different.

Finishing a siding patching job. Woodpeckers and/carpenter bees have carved out 5-6 holes in the composite wood siding around this window. I had to cut out all of the rotted wood and essentially building back the siding layer by layer: foam insulation, insulation tape, a layer of 1/2" plywood, and then another layer of 1/2" plywood cut at 45 degree puzzle pieces to fit back around the window. And then @jbwelddiy wood filler and caulk. The homeowner will paint. Fun project! And testing out my new Smart Glasses 👓 taken in Southampton, Massachusetts by @firstcall413
