Friendly reminder that first-gen students are constantly turning zeros into ones.

According to D'Ric Jackson, “It is not enough to simply be aware that resources on campus exist --- students have to know how to use them and why we use them.” He uses Yoichi from Bluelock as an example in his courses.

In Season 7, Episode 15 of Beverly Hills, 90210, we meet Larry Lincoln, a first-gen student secretly living in the basement of a building on campus.

His story highlights the financial insecurity, housing instability, and hidden costs that some college students experience.

Larry’s conversation with Steve is a reminder that the challenges first-gen students can face go beyond the classroom.

Shout out to @oneal.kelley for mentioning this episode!

Ten years ago, @drltreasemiles and @heatherhighered met for the very time at UCLA. Heather was Director of the Transfer Center and La’Tonya was the new Director of First Year Experience. It was 😍 at first sight. Check out their journey and what led to the creation of their joint venture, My Tribe Media. 🫶🏾 #anniversary #mytribemedia taken in UCLA by @firstgenandjuice
