First Gens awarded the Royal Diana Award🎖️

The Diana Award is the highest accolade a young person can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.

It’s set up in memory of Princess Diana and her belief that young people can change the world. It is supported by both her sons, HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Sussex.

The honor of such an accolade acknowledges the collective efforts, vision, and contributions First Gens and its ambassadors, student members and professional alumni.

We went to the House of Lords!

Incredibly grateful to have been invited to join the socioeconomic inclusion conversation at UK House of Lords.

This is a special moment because this invitation extends to the Firstgens community. Having a seat at the table welcomes our voices to be heard and included.

I had the pleasure of hearing from those pushing the social mobility conversation, including @upreach_team CEO Stephanie Lieber.

Key take aways;

1. First-gen students possess a high aptitude for problem-solving and other entrepreneurial qualities that companies are looking for. Students need to be equipped with the tools to confidently share their stories and identify the raft of skills they have acquired on their journey.

2. There needs to be a wider conversation about the common stereotype that a middle class accent denotes automatic intelligence. Industries need to recognise and mitigate against ‘class polish’ and accent bias.

3. Companies should focus on #access and #equalisingopportunities. In the same breadth, there needs to be a comittment to continued support within the workplace to ensure equity of progression.

FirstGens has teamed up with A&O Shearman to offer six £15,000 bursaries to eligible first-generation students.

If you’re curious about law, this could be a chance to explore the profession, build practical experience and start opening doors for your future.

Beyond the £15,000 (paid as £5,000 per year for three years), you will gain a head start in the legal industry through:

⚖️ A visit to A&O Shearman’s London office  🎤 Exclusive events with legal professionals  🤝 Support from a dedicated A&O Shearman professional throughout your degree  💼 A guaranteed interview for A&O Shearman’s first-year programme (subject to meeting their grade requirements).

If you’re studying law or curious about a career in law, @aoshearmanearlycareersuk are offering six £15,000 bursaries for first-generation students starting university in September 2026.

That’s £5,000 a year in funding you won’t need to pay back.

Plus, visits to the firm in London, exclusive events with legal professionals, a dedicated professional to answer your questions and support your journey getting into law.
