“There are Ways to Leave” is out now. There is so much I want to say but I will keep this as brief as possible. These 10 songs mean the world to me, I couldn’t be prouder of them.
In a way, it’s funny to me this record exists at all. Early on in writing, I realized the record was going to be about one specific thing. As time has passed I now think about these songs completely differently than I did when I began writing them. Sadness became acceptance, anger became understanding, and so on. These songs mean something entirely different to me now, but I think this is what they were always supposed to mean.
I thought I wouldn’t be able to live with this “one thing.” but here I am. I don’t mean that as some grand statement on perseverance, or that I was wrong or naive then. I was naive then, I’m naive today and I’ll be naive tomorrow. Naivity and vulnerability is valuable. It’s worth holding onto. If I wasn’t naive I wouldn’t have the experiences that this recond is about, and I never want to lose them. Even though that time of my life and these experiences mean something different now, they still are incredibly important to me and always will be.
If you took the time to read this, thank you. I hope you’re doing well. Thank you for listening.
