celebrating 1 whole year of first sip charleston and this incredible community that we get to be part of! thank you so much to everyone who has followed along and who loves coffee just as much as we do. 1 year ago, we started have weekly coffee dates as a way to regularly keep in touch during busy seasons of life. we were and are just 2 friends who love coffee and thought it would be fun to expand our community. this year, we are excited to continue to find new ways to do just that! since our community is 100% larger than it was when we started, we wanted to reintroduce ourselves. so excited for many more first sips to come! thank you for following along. we love you🫶🏻 by @firstsipchs

everyone run to bloom and bean right now! this was our second sip here, but our first sip of their vanilla bean whipped espresso and whipped pumpkin delight. the line was out the door when we came (rightfully so) but moved super fast. their espresso is perfect, their cold foam is just the right consistency, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced for people who love coffee and don’t love overly sugary flavors. we are absolutely obsessed and cannot wait to come back for all of this fall and beyond! a perfect first (second) sip that we couldn’t recommend more.

we are so sad to say this, but we weren’t big fans of sundazed. they were recommended to us a couple of times and we were so excited to try because we absolutely love supporting a small coffee truck. unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy the coffee we tried. we want to emphasize that this was one day and one barista! the lattes themselves might have been better, but we found that their syrups tasted pretty artificial. we are definitely open to trying them again and even bought the cutest tshirts while we were there! if you love them, let us know your order!

we frequently get a lot of negative feedback when we say something like this, but as your trusted local coffee reviewers…we have got to be honest. girl next dough had the worst coffee we have ever had. it looked so promising, the branding was so cute, and the pastries were amazing, but the coffee was so bad. for reference, we usually still drink coffees that we don’t love because we hate to waste, but could only make it through a few sips of both of these lattes before throwing them away. the syrup in the strawberry latte had what can only be described as a puree/jam texture, which maybe would have been tolerable if the espresso shots in both lattes weren’t extremely sour. we would love to hear if anyone likes their coffee and if so what you order, because we were very bummed about this first sip.

steady state is so good and you just have to go! we’re talking housemade syrups, foresight coffee, and a great spot downtown for a sunday coffee and walk. right now they are only open on sunday mornings downtown outside of pop-ups, so make sure you plan to go then. this is a coffee cart, so not a place to sit and work. if you’re looking for an amazing latte and to support a newer local coffee spot, this is the place to go. we really really loved their flow state latte with vanilla, lavender, and local honey and can’t stop thinking about it. if you need us we’ll be downtown on sunday mornings or following steady state pop-ups around until further notice.

a perfect first sip that we can’t believe we hadn’t tried until this week! located in west ashley, baguette magic uses foresight coffee (always a huge green flag just fyi) and is just so good. they had so many great options that it was hard to choose, but we ended up landing on their cookies and cream latte and of course our go-to caramel latte. when we tell you these lattes were PERFECT, we mean it. not overly sweet or overly milky and just right shots of espresso. there aren’t tables to sit and work or chat at, but this is worth a stop for a to-go coffee and a snack! we cannot wait to go back.
