One of our signature designs: The central spine staircase, also known as a floating staircase.

We love how the staining of the oak and lighting came together on this project. At first glance, it might look like a simple grey stained staircase, but look a little closer and there’s plenty of warmth, texture and character in there. by @firststepdesigns

Made to fit.

This project is a great example of how our staircases are designed around the space they sit in. The alternating tread design makes clever use of this home’s hallway, turning an area that could easily have been left unused into a useful part of the space. by @firststepdesigns

We might be biased, but our installation team really are a talented bunch.

Another big installation, completed.

Replacing the existing staircase across two flights was a pretty major transformation for this home. What was once a tired, traditional staircase is now something that completely changes the feel of the entrance.

The steel structure was carefully designed to create the winding turn without the need for the structural posts you’d typically expect to see. And that feature step at the base? It doesn’t just look good. It also makes the staircase accessible from multiple directions.

A lot of engineering, planning and hard work goes into making something like this look effortless. by @firststepdesigns

This project is a little bit special.

Apart from the obvious, it features an elliptical main stringer, creating three different radii along a single stringer, with another four radii across the outer stringer.

Trust us, it was just as complicated to engineer as it sounds.

But details like this are what make a bespoke staircase work. In this case, creating the right shape and scale to perfectly fill what is a pretty stunning and generously sized entrance hallway.
