Sometimes you have to push a tame pedal to its limits, and sometimes you need to coax some softness out of an aggressive pedal. This is the latter, letting the @electronicaudioexperiments Glaive sit in a lower gain range and bring some nice texture out of the spring reverb from the @fishcircuits Astronomie. Of course, later in the video I push these both to bring out the full gnarly destruction that this pair is made for. Full video is up on my channel by @fishcircuits

It’s @fishcircuits EXPL 2 day, and I’m here to honk out with all that sweet, sweet midrange. EXPL 2 (or Exploration 2) takes a circuit notorious for its lacks of mids and fills it to bursting with ‘em. Level, plus three selectable voice settings, is all you need. In this clip I’m using the midrangiest possible sound for slow, stoner-y drone and effortless, endless sustain with ye olde man of ice. Check it out

The Fish Circuits EXPL #2 is a mids-focused fuzz built around three distinct Form settings and a deliberate rejection of the usual treble-and-bass obsession found in so much guitar gear. Inspired by a classic stoner fuzz circuit known for scooping out the very frequencies that help guitars stand out, Fish Circuits stripped the design down to its clipping section and rebuilt it entirely around the midrange. Stuck in the middle with... ME!

The Fish Circuits EXPL #2 is a mids-focused fuzz with three Form settings. For this second design in our Exploration series, we’ve embarked on a quest to highlight what we believe is an often underappreciated portion of the guitar frequency spectrum: the midrange. Too often, treble and bass are the only controls on guitars, pedals, or amps. Or worse, a single tone control with treble on one side and bass on the other. Disgusting.

The stoner world has a ubiquitous fuzz circuit that is notably guilty of this neglect of the midrange, so much so that we decided to intervene. Meet the EXPL #2.

@fishcircuits rapidly rose to the top of my “favorite new builders” in the last two years once I played their Astronomie reverb…You can tell there is a LOT of careful curating and meticulous ‘design-by-ear’ going on in their workflow…because every pedal I’ve played from them feels effortless to dial in and play.   Their “Exploration” series touches on new nodes of experimentation for them and keeps ideas moving and evolving with limited (once they’re gone they’re gone) batches.   The EXPL #2 (Or Exploration #2) is a mid-lovers stoner rock wet dream.
