Well the pic says it all. That’s a wrap on my 2026 elk hunt. Tag soup has a different meaning this time, I had plenty of opportunity to fill it early but I wanted to wait for a bull and did. I had numerous encounters and learned so much. I feel like I got 3 years of learning in two weeks. One of the best trips of my life! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 10, well the honey hole had elk! Got on one early but could not get him to commit. Spent most of the day sneaking through the bedding area trying to make a play on them. Then last light had a chance on some cows but couldn’t close the distance in time. Small heard of 9 with just a spike no big bull pretty weird for this time of year. My last morning is here! Today is the day I kill an elk! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 9, well if there are two constants in my life right now it’s one it will rain and two I will mess up on a bull! Went back to the bull from yesterday and got within 60 yards and he just wanted nothing to do with me. He barked at me then stood there for over 10 minutes barking under his breath at me. It was so cool but so frustrating. That area is beat up so I will be going to a little spot I know of. It is tucked in around some private and hopefully hasn’t been hunted hard. Today is the day I kill an elk! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 8, I got in early like every morning. The 4 mile hike in is starting to wear on me but that’s how I know I am getting close! Got to my primary spot and quite no bugles but did see a nice chocolate bear 🐻. Around 9 I decided to move slowly towards a wallow I know of when I heard him over the hill. I got around him to be in a better spot for the wind and he sounded off again this time under 70 yards in some thick pines. Then as fast as it happened he just vanished! No idea what I did wrong but at bats and I’m learning. It’s 3 am as I write this and today is the day I kill an elk! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 7, weather is starting to get better. It was a transition day from rain to sun. Super quiet in the woods all day. Was blessed to call in a spike which came in silent. Then beat brush mist of the day looking for something that isn’t there. Going forward no more covering ground! I know where they are I just have to be patient. Like I say every morning today I kill an elk! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 6, and you guessed it rain! Tough day lots of rain but I did hear one bugle at this wallow around 10 am. By the time I was able to navigate to it he was gone. Weather is finally getting cooler and drier so it’s only a matter of time! by @fishingwithphil24

Day 5, wow what a rollercoaster of a day! Up early to make the 4 mile hike in and man was it worth it. As soon as I got to my spot I had one sound off. He was with cows and stayed about 80 yards out. Later in the morning he sounded off again and I racked a tree which made him super aggravated but still wouldn’t close the distance. Then slow afternoon with more storms. Then in between the rain he sounded off once more but this time he was on a mission to get somewhere fast. Up early again writing this and ready to make the 4 mile climb once again. 🤞 been testing out the new lightweight pants from @asio_gear all week and will have a full review coming. by @fishingwithphil24

Day 4, ended up being a zero day! The rain has been heavy to say the least. After having the one sneak in on us during the rain I decided staying out and regrouping was the best option. A few more days the weather is going to turn colder and the muzzleloader hunters will be done. Until then we grind as I write this at 3am. A thanks to the people over at @mountainhunteroutdoors for the awesome boot dryers. My wife loves a light pair of hiking boots but they do get wet. These small dryers saved the day! by @fishingwithphil24

Day three, started out like most mornings early. Got in about 4 miles to a spot I found in May when scouting. Put a camera up and was happy to see it was still there. Around 8 am the skies opened and it stormed for 45 minutes straight. As soon as it ended I let out a bugle with no response. Then like 20 minutes later I hear the familiar sound of heavy foot steps jumping and running behind me. As they do so often something had snuck in and saw me. Lucky the wind was in my favor so no harm. The skies have again opens up and ended a short but productive day. What was on my camera was amazing! #teameastiesheadlamp by @fishingwithphil24

Day 2, well found the elk but no bull yet. Had two cows within 20 yards and decided to pass for now. I am trying to get my first bull. I am thankful and blessed to have this opportunity. by @fishingwithphil24
