// @fishmoonfetus Post-human Prosthesis

Reimagining the existing helmet - an object traditionally associated with safety and protection - as an artefact from a speculative future. Composed of archival materials collected over the years - animal bones, wood and human hair - the piece holds traces of multiple lives, landscapes, and temporalities. Each fragment is both remnant and memory, attached onto the industrial form to create a living archive of fragility and endurance.

The work extends my ongoing explorations of gender identity, drag, architecture, and the lives of resisting creatures surviving an uncertain future. The inclusion of the ponytail queers the object further, blurring human and non-human, masculine and feminine, material and body. Positioned between relic and prophecy, the helmet gestures towards a post-apocalyptic landscape where identities and species dissolve into one another. It asks what protection might mean in an age of ecological and existential uncertainty, and what forms of memory and care we choose to carry into the futures we both fear and forge.

The sculptural work gestures towards mutation, hybridity, and the collapse of boundaries between human / animal / machine / other. Inspired by queer futurism, evolutionary mutation and speculative ecologies.

// wood, bones & hormones (no, just actual human hair) 🪵☠️💇🏻‍♀️ are the special ingredients that went into the making of this Helmet for @startindia x @royalenfieldsocialmission

Getting my hands dirty & working with my carpenters in the workshop, is one of my most favorite things to do! Here’s some BTS from what went down in the workshop, on this very saw-dusty day 🪚

// #wip from my @fishmoonfetus mutant series + nice light in the studio + kiki (my beby obsession) + this recurring peculiar but familiar colour combination of cardinal red & a pale purple / periwinkle.

PS. peeps think ‘Kiki’ is a strange name for a cat, but isn’t ‘Periwinkle’ such a weird name for a colour?! Sounds like the title of a naughty nursery rhyme to me. by @fishmoonfetus

// creating 3 dimensional versions of these black mutant droplets you might’ve seen often in my work 🩸🖤

In the @fishmoonfetus world, the mutants have many lives. Each droplet represents a life they’ve lived & lost. The number of droplets seen on a mutant, at any given point, tells you how many lives they’ve lived / how many times they’ve died. 🥀🪦💧

amen.
