Regaining shoulder movement after a stroke takes time, consistency, and the right exercises. 💪🧠

These exercises are designed to help improve shoulder mobility, muscle activation, and functional arm use. Every small improvement can make everyday tasks like dressing, eating, and reaching a little easier.

⚠️ Always perform stroke rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of a qualified physiotherapist, as not every exercise is appropriate for every stage of recovery.

🏥 HAD SURGERY? DON’T IGNORE THESE 4 SIGNS! ⚠️

Your recovery doesn’t end when you leave the hospital!

After surgery, pay attention to these signs:

🚩 1. Worsening pain — especially pain that is severe, unexpected or not settling as advised.

🚩 2. Increasing swelling — particularly when accompanied by redness, warmth or wound discharge.

🚩 3. Stiffness or difficulty moving — when bending, straightening or moving your limb becomes difficult.

🚩 4. Difficulty walking or performing daily activities — when your recovery isn’t progressing as expected.

💚 The good news? Appropriate physiotherapy can help you work towards improved movement, strength, balance and independence after surgery.

At FitHub Physiotherapy & Wellness Clinic, we assess your needs and develop an individualised rehabilitation plan suited to your recovery and your surgical team’s advice.

That swelling behind your knee may not be “just swelling.” 👀

A Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that develops behind the knee, usually because something inside the knee is causing excess fluid production.

Common causes include:
🦵 Knee arthritis
🦵 Meniscus problems
🦵 Knee injury
🦵 Inflammation inside the joint

You may experience:
• A noticeable lump or fullness behind the knee
• Knee stiffness or discomfort
• Difficulty bending the knee fully
• Sometimes pain or swelling extending toward the calf

Physiotherapy can help by addressing the underlying knee problem, improving strength and mobility, managing symptoms, and helping you return to normal activities.

⚠️ If you have sudden calf swelling, significant calf pain, warmth/redness, or shortness of breath, seek urgent medical attention rather than assuming it is a Baker’s cyst.

Don’t just treat the swelling—find out what’s causing it.

Pain doesn’t always mean you need complete rest. Sometimes the right approach is modifying the activity, reducing the load, and gradually building strength and movement tolerance.

But persistent, worsening, or unexplained pain deserves proper assessment.

Don’t just push through pain—understand it.

If you feel pain on the outside of your hip, especially when you:

• Lie on that side
• Walk for a while
• Climb stairs
• Stand on one leg
• Get up after sitting

…it may be related to gluteal tendinopathy or irritation around the lateral hip.

These exercises can be a good starting point for improving hip strength, load tolerance and movement control — but the right exercises and intensity depend on what is causing your pain.

💡 Tip: More pain isn’t always more progress. Start at a level your hip can tolerate and gradually build up.

👉 Save this for your next workout.
👉 Share it with someone who keeps complaining about side hip pain.

After a stroke, the affected arm can become vulnerable because of weakness and reduced muscle control.

One simple way caregivers can help is by supporting the affected arm and avoiding pulling on it during transfers or movement.

Small handling mistakes can place unnecessary stress on the shoulder.

If you care for a stroke survivor, remember:

✔️ Support the affected arm
✔️ Avoid pulling the arm
✔️ Position the arm comfortably
✔️ Take care during transfers
✔️ Don’t force painful movements
✔️ Seek professional guidance when unsure

Protect the shoulder. Support the recovery.

Save this post for later and share it with someone caring for a stroke survivor.

Is the shoulder of a stroke survivor starting to look lower or “droopy”?

This can happen with shoulder subluxation, where the head of the upper-arm bone partially moves away from its normal position in the shoulder joint.

After a stroke, weakness of the muscles that normally support the shoulder can reduce stability. Poor positioning and pulling on the affected arm during transfers can also place unnecessary stress on the shoulder.

⚠️ One important thing caregivers should know:
Never pull or lift a stroke survivor by their affected arm during transfers.

Instead:
✅ Support the trunk
✅ Support the affected arm
✅ Guide the movement rather than pulling the arm
✅ Use safe transfer techniques taught by a physiotherapist
✅ Encourage appropriate rehabilitation to improve shoulder control and function

Early assessment and appropriate rehabilitation can help protect the shoulder and improve function.

If you care for someone after a stroke, save this post and share it with another caregiver. ❤️

Sometimes we get used to pain because it has been there for a while.

But recurring or persistent pain can affect how you move, sleep, work and exercise — and simply ignoring it may not address the reason it keeps returning.

If you notice that:
• the pain keeps coming back
• it is gradually getting worse
• your movement is becoming limited
• you are avoiding activities because of it

…it may be time to get assessed.

Physiotherapy starts with understanding your symptoms, movement and functional limitations, followed by an appropriate treatment plan.

💚 Don’t just manage the pain. Understand it.
