📕: Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
🧢: @pakscaps
📌: @pinn.em
📎: @cphtx713_ x @_fittedgang

Sometimes you’ve gotta step outside your usual genre… and apparently, that means accepting an invitation to a creepy isolated mansion in the countryside in Mexico. 🕯️

Mexican Gothic was definitely a change of pace for me, and honestly? I’m glad I picked it up.

This one drops you into a creepy mansion 🏚️, a strange family 👀, and an atmosphere that gets more unsettling the longer you stay. And when I say something feels OFF… it feels OFF. 😬

What I really enjoyed was the slow unraveling of the mystery 🔎. It’s not the kind of book where everything hits you at 100 mph. It takes its time, builds the tension, and keeps giving you just enough to make you think:

“Yeah… I probably shouldn’t be here.” 😂🚪

And Noemí was a great protagonist. She’s confident, sharp, and has just enough determination to make you root for her when things start getting weird.

📕: Funny Story by Emily Henry
🧢: @fitted.dad
📌: @pakscaps
📎: @lambs_lids416

✨ Rom-com movies have always been my guilty pleasure… so I finally decided to see if the books lived up to the hype. 📚🎬❤️

After plenty of encouragement from my wife, she suggested I start my rom-com reading journey with Funny Story by Emily Henry and, I’m glad I listened.

As my first official rom-com read, I went in hoping for the same charm, humor, and feel-good moments that make rom-com movies so rewatchable. This book delivered all of that and more. The witty banter, memorable characters, heartfelt moments, and laugh-out-loud humor had me hooked from the very beginning.

Safe to say… my wife picked a winner. 🙌 As she usually does. 😏 While sci-fi and fantasy will always be home, I think it’s safe to say rom-coms have officially earned a spot in my reading rotation. If you’ve ever loved a good rom-com movie but haven’t tried a rom-com book yet, this is a great place to start.

📕: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
🧢: @sacred_athletics x @eightoneshop
📌: @pakscaps
📎: @houstonhatcrew

🚀🧑🏽‍🚀 You wake up alone in space. No memories. No name. Just two dead crewmates and a mystery so massive it could mean the end of all humanity. And somehow, YOU are the only one who can solve it. 👀

The science runs deep, but it never loses you. The way Weir builds this - the problem-solving, the humor woven into the tension, the slow drip of answers, had me completely locked in. 😤📖 And then there’s an unlikely companion that creates an even more beautiful story than you were already reading. I’ll leave it at that. 🥺

This book also does something, I absolutely cannot tell you about. But when it happened, I had to just sit with it for a minute. 🤯 You’ll know the moment when you get there. And that ending? I’m not ashamed to say I felt that one in my chest. 🥹❤️

This isn’t just a favorite book. This is a recommend-it-to-every-person-all-time, favorite for me. And listen, I know not everyone is a sci-fi person, but I promise this book doesn’t care. It will pull you in regardless. 🙏🏽

Do yourself a favor - if you haven’t read the book or watched the movie, read the book first. It’s worth it.

📕: The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman
🧢: @fitted.dad x @procietyshop
📌: @pakscaps
📎: @lambs_lids416

🚂🔥The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook by Matt Dinniman just proved that this series keeps leveling up, literally and figuratively 🎮⬆️ This floor is a massive, reality-bending subway system called the Iron Tangle that makes approximately zero logical sense, and yet I could not put this book down. If that sounds like a contradiction, welcome to Dungeon Crawler Carl. 🌀😤

Carl continues his evolution from reluctant survivor to full-blown lovable chaos agent, and Princess Donut 🐱👑 remains a cat with the ego of a celebrity and the heart of a champion and I will not hear otherwise. The found family dynamics that have been building since book one really start to shine here, and there are emotional moments tucked between the explosions and dark humor that genuinely caught me off guard. 💥💣

The humor is sharp, the action is relentless, and the social commentary hiding underneath all the chaos is smarter than this series gets credit for. If you’ve made it to book three you already know you’re in for the long haul and The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook makes sure you wouldn’t have it any other way. Highly recommended, sanity not included.🦶🏼🧠

“Are you not entertained?” 🗡️

This book takes us into a near future America where the prison industrial complex has evolved into a televised death match called CAPE (Criminal Action Penal Entertainment). 📺⛓️

We follow Thurwar and Staxxx, the stars of the circuit, as they fight for their freedom in a system designed to strip them of their humanity for the sake of “likes” and ratings.

It’s a raw, satirical look at capitalism and our obsession with spectacle. 🏟️ Amidst the combat, there is a deeply moving love story and a raw exploration of what it means to be human in a world that treats you like a product. ❤️‍🩹

This isn’t just a book about gladiators; it’s a mirror held up to our current society. It’s brutal, it’s uncomfortable, and it is absolutely essential. ✊🏾

🏛️ Ancient empire vibes. 🎓 Schools with hidden agendas. 🧠 Smart scheming over flashy magic. 🔥 Slow-burn twists that sneak up on you.

Think Roman inspired power structures, an elite academy full of secrets, and a main character who’s constantly walking a very thin line between “blend in” and “everything goes sideways, while the tensions keep building.

The Hierarchy comes from people willingly giving up a portion of their strength, endurance, and ability to those above them in the social chain. The higher you are, the more power you hold… literally. The lower you are, the weaker you become. Every display of power carries weight and you’re constantly aware that strength equals sacrifice.

Highly recommend this if you enjoy books where power, loyalty, and survival are constantly in conflict.

Another year, another chapter closed.🔥📖
27 books down, almost double from last year, and I’m honestly proud. 😤🙌📚 Mixed it up from sci-fi and fantasy to manga, self-development, romantasy, and dystopian, I was all over the shelves this year.

Looking forward to the new year because even though I completed my 24 book challenge… my TBR remains undefeated 📖💀

📕: One Piece (Omnibus Edition), East Blue Vols. 1-2-3 by Eiichiro Oda

What if the biggest dream in the world belonged to the goofiest guy you’ve ever met? 🤠 That’s One Piece in a nutshell, and this is where it all begins. 🏴‍☠️

This is where we meet Monkey D. Luffy, a rubbery ball of optimism with one big dream: to become the King of the Pirates. You can’t help but love his energy. Along the way, he starts building his legendary crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, and each one has such a strong personality, unique fighting style, and emotional backstory that you’ll be hooked right away. ⚔️❤️‍🔥

Each arc feels like its own journey, but together they start shaping something bigger; you can actually see Luffy and his crew growing with every challenge. It’s wild how Eiichiro Oda manages to mix pure comedy with moments that hit you right in the heart.

A bold, heartfelt start that reminds you why great stories aren’t just about the destination but the people you meet on the way. 🌊

📕: 1984 by George Orwell

📎: @pakscaps

👁️ Big Brother might’ve been fiction, but in 2025… it hits a little too close to home.

1984 by George Orwell is one of those books that feels more like a warning than a story. 📖 Written over 75 years ago, it predicted so much of what’s been happening presently; constant monitoring, rewritten truths, fear used to manipulate the masses, and the fight to think freely. 🕵️‍♂️💭

Reading it today feels eerie. Between data tracking, censorship, and the way “truth” shifts depending on who’s talking, it’s hard not to see the parallels. 😶‍🌫️ It can be a heavy, haunting, and a way too relevant read and that’s what makes it unforgettable.

If you’ve ever wondered how far control over information can go… this one will make you stop scrolling and start thinking. 🧠📚

📕: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
🧢: @gate_crasher_

Every year, this classic by Harper Lee lands on the “banned” list and tbh that says a lot about why it still matters today.

This isn’t just an old story from the 1930s (which wasn’t even 100 years ago) it’s a reflection of continuous societal issues that we’re still having in 2025 regarding race, justice, and empathy. 💔⚖️

Some ban it for its language or the way it forces us to face racism head-on… but that’s exactly why it should be read. Books like this remind us that growth starts with discomfort and empathy can change everything.

This book is in my wife’s ’Top 5 of All Time’. If that’s not recommendation enough - and you have issues with authority like me - 🚫 Banned Books Week 🚫 is the perfect time to check it out.
