Happy birthday, Dad. On behalf of your family that created so many lasting memories from our years in Youth Commission sports, please consider donating in honor of what would have been Dave’s 70th birthday today. @heidismith129 @ianpaulsmith @lucasssmith @han_leboeuf

Hiked three continents
Biked two
Ate 142 pieces of raw fish
Slept through New Year’s Eve in Bangkok
Bought our own bikes
Popped 3 tires
Fell out of hammocks
Camped (duh)
Watched friends get hitched
Drove on the wrong side of the road

How can you not continue look forward to life together when looking back has been such a pleasant surprise?

I love you Han 🫀 by @fitzaurus

Good morning, I love you.

365 days of that, endless more.

The sickness part of our vows I cashed in on real quick. To say I put you to the test right out of the gate (Kentucky derby reference) is an understatement.

You were by my side, patient as you could be, which would’ve been difficult for a monk.

Many, many positive outcomes and experiences still sprouted out of the difficult start, not the least of which is my utter clarity that I made the best decision asking you to be my wife.

Now for the “in health” part…

Love having a day to celebrate my favorite of all the moms. Thanks for teaching me how to always find the warming glass of red wine in a cold blizzard! (Literal and metaphorical)

You’ve brought so much love and laughter into my life Hannah, and even a cute golden. You know what I need, and I should never question you on it (..like a cute golden). If this is what our first few years looks like, I can’t wait for the rest.

31 years ago I was born

31 years ago you became a dad

Celebrated both the only way I know how

Gather some of my favorite people…

Head to the woods

Could have only asked for a better birthday if we got to share the celebration of each other, with each other

Your love of the outdoors lives on through me and all you touched

“Three months”

A song by Local Natives that’s been visiting me more frequently, perhaps it’s the universe speaking, perhaps I just notice it more because of the subject matter: a 30-something learning how to navigate his life and emotions after the passing of his mother. “I have to go on now, having thought this wasn’t your last year.”

A favorite song of mine, from a favorite album for nearly 10 years that I’ve developed a more profound connection to now, three months to the day after my father’s passing.

Couldn’t be more grateful for the 30 years I was able to absorb your wisdom and experience your comforting presence, couldn’t be more grateful yet, knowing there’s comfort in these unfortunate experiences I now share with others, whether my brothers and mother, or people I’ve never met.

Love you Dad. Three months closer to seeing you again taken in Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre by @fitzaurus
