From a roadside rescue to release 🦫

Since 2023, we have carried out 19 translocations onto @forestryandlandscot land, and release sites are always carefully selected to offer good habitat for the beavers and the lowest potential for conflict.

As Britain’s beaver population continues to grow, we anticipate that more beavers may require rescue, rehabilitation and re-release support. That’s why Beaver Trust is working with a range of stakeholders to develop clear guidance and protocols covering the rescue, temporary holding, rehabilitation and re-release of beavers.

This will help ensure that the welfare and needs of the species are properly met at every stage, while giving individual animals the best possible chance of successfully returning to the wild and surviving after release.

Not only is it National Badger Day, but this week also marks an incredible 10 years since our European badger Dachsie arrived at Five Sisters Zoo! 🦡

Dachsie was rescued in the Netherlands in 2016 after construction work disturbed a mother badger and her five young cubs living beneath the concrete floor of an old industrial building. Sadly, their mother did not return, and the cubs were taken into the care of @natuurhulpcentrumopglabbeek.

The five cubs were cared for and rehabilitated by the team, with four eventually able to return to the wild. Dachsie, however, was considered unsuitable for release and needed a permanent home, which he found here at Five Sisters Zoo. 🏠

A decade later, Dachsie is still very much part of the Five Sisters Zoo family, and we’ve had the pleasure of caring for him ever since! ❤️

Exciting Changes to Our Sponsorship Programme! 🐾

We’re currently restructuring our sponsorship programmes, with some exciting changes coming very soon! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our animals through sponsorships and adoptions over the years. Your continued support means so much to us and has helped us provide the best possible care for the animals here at Five Sisters Zoo.

For anyone who has sponsored or adopted an animal with us over the past 20 years, please be aware that, as part of these changes, our existing sponsorship and adoption boards will begin to be removed from April 2027.

If you have sponsored or adopted an animal within the last year, your name will remain displayed for the full year before the board is removed.

We’ll be sharing more information about our new sponsorship programmes very soon, so be sure to keep an eye on our website and social media for all the latest updates! 👀
