Duncan Sheik was one of my earliest songwriting heroes when I was starting out and I’m so sad to hear of his sudden passing this weekend. It’s hard to put into words how much his music has meant to me and my life and how many memories are wrapped up inside of it. From high school to the last song of my wedding day, let alone his steady influence on pretty much everything I’ve ever produced for Five Times August. His work is part of my songwriting DNA. Rest in Peace Duncan - thanks for everything. 🙏 🎶 by @fivetimesaugust

Here’s a little blast from the past. Five Times August’s song “Better With You” featured in an episode of popular teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, 2010. Did you ever watch this show? Aired on TeenNick in the US and CTV in Canada. by @fivetimesaugust

25 years ago on this day in 2001: Five Times August’s debut public performance at a local Starbucks in Flower Mound, Texas. Homemade copies of the now extremely rare five track “Acoustic EP #1” CD were also available. What an extraordinary journey it’s been since. 🎶 by @fivetimesaugust

As Anthony Fauci makes waves in the news for pleading the fifth over a hundred times at his hearing in DC this week, Five Times August’s 2021 scorching ode criticizing to the sad little man is making the rounds online once again, with the video going viral on social media, and the song itself even returning to the iTunes singer/songwriter charts!

With your help, now is a great time to send FTA’s “Sad Little Man” to the number one spot and give Fauci something to write about in his next diary entry! Revisit the song and video and share it like wildfire! by @fivetimesaugust

Sad little man sitting deep in a lie.
He’s dead in his soul, but he’ll keep you alive.
Do what he says, not what he do.
‘Cause the truth is for him and the lie is for you.

———————————

I was probably the first and definitely one of a very few artists who dared use their platform to call out Fauci when he was at the peak of being treated like a god. I faced a ton of pushback, censorship, and cancelation, and lost many friends and fans and opportunities over it.

Still no regrets.

He remains “Sad Little Man” 🎶
