Spooder Plant 🌱

Really enjoyed making this :) The walk cycle uses procedural IK in KineFX. The root bone follows a curve while the feet lift and place dynamically with the ground below (CHOPs, VEX, VOPs). Vellum is used to deintersect leaves initially then again to give them natural sway and collisions. Vellum also keeps the foot geometry above the ground plane using pin contraints. Rendered in Karma XPU.

I’ve been playing around with procedural walkers in Houdini this year. Here’s a small explanation of what they entail. It’s a great way to animate without having to keyframe everything, instead I just program a set of rules, it’s really adaptable and surprising too!

It’s Nicola PlaySturgeon. One from the vaults of 2023. Rendered using GLSL shaders I wrote in TouchDesigner. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get as close as I could to og PS1 graphics 🤓 Modelled and textured in Blender by @fizzypopvfx

🐌 A Deranged Rogue Snail featuring @fitforadventure_ who once said “I really enjoy dragging my big pack up Munros like some sort of deranged rogue snail” and it inspired me to make this.

I’m an animator based in Scotland, and I like to do outdoorsy things. I took several references from Sarah’s videos, her cap, glasses, tent, and love of pip n nut. I’m really happy with how all this came together and it’s been super fun to work on 🙂

Sarah is one of my fave outdoor adventure people so give her a follow if you don’t already!
