@jmarnocha messaged today to let me know that today is the TENTH anniversary of our first Transformers show: COMBINER WARS. I honestly had no idea. I could write an entire book about THE PRIME WARS TRILOGY. It certainly wouldn’t fit in a post. Finding out you have a life-threatening illness in the middle of production and then getting fired (despite promises you would all be back) was pretty traumatic. And that was just the first season. Regardless of my feelings about the actual show and some of the people involved, It was a crash course in writing/producing animation, dealing with a large company like Hasbro, and working in Japan. The first season (and half of the second) taught @goformurray and I what NOT to do so when we were eventually brought back we knew what we had to do. This first show was the start of many great relationships, including those at Hasbro, WB, Tatsunoko, and machinima and launched my career in the animation space. Many wonderful and talented people worked hard under stressful circumstances to make this show as good as it could possibly be and I am grateful to all of them (in particular to Jamie, Gary, George K, @vincenttalenti, @kelseigh, Jason and @ftodaro). I was extremely lucky to be a part of it. by @fjdesanto

So @michaeloakleyofficial has a new album coming out. It’s pretty good. Not just saying that because I play bass on a song and not just because he plays on our new EP. We’ll got to those eventually. So, i'm the “bad guy” in his new video. I tried to get out of it, but because I helped them come up with the idea, they weren’t taking no for an answer. Everyone’s director, @bradakinnan directed it and did a helluva job. @hollydodsonofficial is the star and producer. She’s awesome and they run a fun set (and respected my one “star” request). My new pal @valleylightsmusic is my henchman and I yell at him A LOT. I wear a suit and a scarf and have a gun. So basically I had a whole new audience for my Walken and Pacino impersonations. The song is great, the video looks super and it was a fun day watching all these guys in action. Hopefully they won’t get pissed i posted a few of these. Anyway, I’m sure this will be out soon by @fjdesanto

In my interview with @hkcinemaappreciationsociety, i had mentioned writing a letter that was published in the @jackiechan fan club magazine. This letter opened the door to years of pen pals and friends who helped me dive head first into the word of JC and HK action cinema. Some of them are still around today. Thorsten at @jackiechan.de watched the interview and found the letter which he tells me was issue #29 from Jun-Oct 1987. Never thought I'd ever see this again but here it is and thank you Thorsten! by @fjdesanto

I thought @chantasticvoyage was going to ask me some questions about HK action movies for his @hkcinemaappreciationsociety channel. Instead he ambushed me with questions that covered my entire life. He even went over all three bands. For most of you this is "you've already told me this story a thousand times" but there may be a few new ones in there and some. William was great to talk to. For two freaking hours. It's on his YouTube channel. Don't blame me. by @fjdesanto

Another tough one to write, especially considering this is the man who introduced me to the gentleman in my last post. He went by a number of different names from Jono to Trotters to Chef Tits (a story for another time) and others I can’t say publicly, but Jonathan Roberts and I probably would never have crossed paths except this ridiculous industry brought us together over 20 years ago when he and Nate partnered with my first boss, Michael Uslan. From there we began a truly WILD journey. Jack (as he always will be to me), was loud, brash, highly intelligent, and said all the stuff everyone is thinking out loud. ALL OF IT. I can’t think of anyone who I could quote that would make you either blush or laugh the way he did.

He was a child of the south and I was a kid from NY. We had almost nothing in common, especially on the political spectrum, but we all loved bacon and goddamn did we make each other laugh. We were rarely sober, especially in our beloved Japan. We bizarrely shared a cancer journey together, but getting sick within months of each other, which I am still convinced was a deliberate plot concocted by Nate, Mike and Andrea and also perhaps justifiable. I’m joking…or am I?

Irregardless, that journey bonded us in a way words here can’t convey. And by the way, I intentionally said “irregardless” because a. It’s not a word and b. I once watched Jack almost kill another human being for using it in a sentence. I told you, there’s a million stories and man are they flooding back. He lived hard and loved harder, just ask Dayna, Nate and his family.

He was clearly pissed Hiroshi died first and had to one up him. Hiroshi always told Jono he was “Pain In The Ass.” Again lots of laughs. They traded the title of “person to get FJ the drunkest he’s ever been” so mission accomplished. We could barely handle them here on Earth, so I fear the ruckus they are causing right now. I just know it smells of booze and cigars. Fear for God, Buddha and everyone else on the spiritual plane.

As he once said to me “Drink up, bitch”, so here’s to you. by @fjdesanto
